Actually,
California's economy is actually growing on par with the immigration level-maybe even exceeding it. In fact, $700 Billion in Gross Product growth since 2000, which is equivalent to the Gross State Product of Florida.
The state budget deficit has very little to do with taking care of immigrants since the vast majority of our state's budget goes to education and law enforcement. Granted, illegal immigration impacts both those segments of the budget, its not as big as some would like to believe.
What conservatives call "entitlement programs" really constitute a very small part of the budget.
The Deficit is due to a loss in revenue caused by a stalled economy and falling property values.

It's nice to read positive thoughts like this, instead of all the Doom and Gloom that people post about California.
People also fail to realize that the $20 Billion Deficit is pocket change compared to the $1.7 Trillion Dollar Economy that we have.
I'll always remain Optimistic for California no matter what the outlook may be.

Obviously depends on who you ask, but to me, yes. A growing population often equates to growing economies and growing opportunities for those in a position to take advantage of them. Having grown up around the most populated city in the country, I saw first hand how employment and wealth trend up alongside of population, despite the challenges that growth can bring.

Population Growth is either Good or Bad depending on which Country or Area you live in.

I also agree, just look at how Arizona,Nevada,Texas and a few other fast growing states took advantage of their population growth to boost their economy.

Thats because they are getting the best and brightest Californians, not necessarily good for California.
Those other states took advantage by LOWERING taxes as well, Ca. highest income tax is over 10%
Did they move that Toyota plant in Socal yet, I think they were going to move to Alabama or something...oopps there goes more revenue!!
This year Ca. dropped to #3 for # of Fortune 500 companies.
I will say that everything cycles so hopefully it will cycle up sometime soon!!

#3 out of 50... not so bad is it? And really, does it matter in a state with almost 40 million people?
