Growth rate of 500k per year - mostly due to births and immigration. A lot of people say that California is losing population... but that doesn't seem to be the case! Now I know the rebuttal - CA is losing middle class, whites, educated people, etc... but that is a much harder statistic to nail down - and in the end, isn't today's immigrant tomorrow's middle class?

2 sides.. yes it's growing due to immigration and births..at the same time.. it's loosing population due to the rise in immigration, cost, taxes and job loss.. I think a lot of people are leaving all for the same reason.. because of all the immigration. The cost to support all these people "without". Over crowded everything, over priced everything, the supply cannot meet the demand. How unapealing for people who have lived here their whole life. I see California as a meal ticket for anyone looking for a chance at a better life.. coming from a currupt country..it is a big step up. However.. it only makes it harder for everyone else. I think the California population will continue to grow by leaps and bounds.. at the same time just as many people are going to be on first bus out of town.

Not when they have no job skills and their kids drop out of high school.

Look at cities like Huntington Park.. might as well be mexico north,,,, looks like any city in Mexico...

The comment about the dilution of the middle class is right on... L.A. is one big melting pot right now and the "lifestyle" isnt improving.... the rest of California inst far behind

I still love this state... and Im ambivalent about leaving... I keep hoping there is still a great place to live here that meets my desires.. and there is.. except.. and its a big exception.. the rest of the state is drowning the middle class while we are awash in immigration.. theres no fix that I see any politician doing anything substantive about... republican or democrat

L.A and California's Population will continue to grow for years to come, but we kinda slowed down a bit from what i've been reading.

Texas currently leads the Nation in Population Growth....Texas also had more Hispanic/Latino Immigrants pouring into their state than in California, but California still has the largest percent of Hispanics/Latinos in the U.S.

I also find it interesting that even though California now has over 38 Million People,we still have many Unpopulated or Rural Parts here.

I noticed you live in the San Diego Region,so I was wondering if you believe that San Diego will eventually merge with Metro L.A through the Temecula-Murrieta area ????

No, as there are major geographical and economic barriers which will keep the regions separate.

Sass, where are you getting your numbers from? Are they fully current 2007 numbers? I'm wondering if LA County has hit 10m yet? And of course I'm interested in SD City's population as well. Plus I hear that the Sac Metro may very well pass San Diego by as California's 3rd largest metro in the next 20 years.
