Furthermore ... many species of plants have their northern or southern limits near Pt. Conception. So, along the coast, Pt Conception is a fairly natural boundary pt. Where it gets tough is inland. Not too many Giants fans in Bakersfield ... in Fresno, a few more ... in Modesto, many.

Fresno has been home to the Giants AAA team since 1998.
Fresno Grizzlies: Home
And the Giants single A team was in Fresno from 1958 until 1988.
So quite a few Giants fans around here.
But on Fresno local TV and radio stations I can see/hear both the Giants and the Dodgers live broadcasts.
So if we use baseball the dividing line is somewhere around Fresno.
But my wife is an A's fan and I know several Padre fans around here. There is always someone who wants to mess things up.

The Chronicle has announced it will no longer be available in San Luis Obispo County and points south. I guess they are surrendering more territory to Southern California. But I'm going to miss getting a newstand copy when I visit that area, guess I'm going to have to find a computer to see the online version when I travel that way.

I think The Grapevine area probably starts S. CA.......because Bakersfield is considered 'central'..... Anything in the San Joaquin Valley area, (said to be the most fertile farmland in the world), is central......
I was raised in Lodi and we call it N. CA, but in recent decades, it has been called central...however, Sacramento, 36 miles away, has always been called N. CA.
and the San Luis Obispo area is considered Central...... Santa Barbara is about an hour or so below that, so maybe Santa Barbara begins S. CA along the coast????

Maybe Pt. Conception (sp) begins S. CA along the coast???????? The wind there could easily divide the state in half.

I don't consider anything south of Woodland to be in Northern California, and I prefer it without abbreviations And I was born and raised in SoCal

Amen Baby Sister. When I travel way down south to the San Fran Bay area, if someone asks where I live, I just love to tell them 'I live up in Northern California'.
