At least from what I've seen in the Bay Area, many people seem to be buying second homes locally (within a couple of hours drive), as a vacation get-away/remote work location.

Yes they are probably somewhat of a factor, after all, about one third of the Bay Area is foreign born and the region has the longest history with China of any city in the Americas, however, data of movement out of and within the region show that locals are by far the overwhelming majority of buyers.

No doubt. I had to google the county lines. Bishop is just south of Mono County. It falls in Inyo County.

I would love to see the Peninsula area keep climbing and eventually get to $3 million. The higher the better.

This doesn't change the fact that the Bay Area housing market remains out of reach for most and the wealth divide is only increasing. However, you cannot ignore how much wealth is being created here, especially in the tech sector.

Vancouver is also much more YIMBY with construction cranes and new high-rises everywhere but yeah both have the same issue with foreign speculators.

I have been advocating for immigration reform before trump ever since I picked up books about the decline of Detroit and automation since around 2010. The U.S. hasn’t needed massive immigration for quite sometime. We also put no clauses on where they need to relocate to. Just more of the same areas other immigrants chose to go and they follow.

On a serious note our government hasn’t done anything to stop foreigners buying homes here yet? I can understand allowing foreigners the chance to develop places to sell off or rent but this **** has gone to far.

With joe Biden at the helm I am sure we will have to keep dealing with unfettered immigration. I imagine he will repeal the h1b1 changes Trump installed as well. This is way out of hand.
I expect Indian immigration to increase this decade, especially under Biden or Kamala. Hard to say if they'll all come to the Bay Area. Recent h1bs are more likely to move to cheaper cities like Dallas, especially with remote work.

The Chinese are increasingly viewing America as less desirable and are getting the message from the media, their media and America's that there is a big wave of anti-Chinese racism.
