I am really glad for your post amarion because my wife is Filipino and my daughter is half Filipino and we are considering moving to CA

Most everything else that people said that they thought was negative I find all the more a reason to move to Bakersfield. My wife's family is from the Bay Area but unfortunately when I was there I saw things which I think have permanently scarred me and I refuse to live too close to that area. When the communist candidate(or what ever the party is called) receives more than the Republican candidate something is not right. Republicans in my city (Bethlehem, PA) rarely win but they at least come in second. My Dad thinks that I am losing my soul considering a move to CA because of Hollywood and all the anti-military things and the insane federal court we see on the news all the time. I am glad people had the guts to not show a Michael Moore propaganda movie. Also to say all conservative people are not intelligent is ridiculous. There are ignorant people on both sides of the isle. The most unfriendly rudest people I have experienced in my life have been the self absorbed elitist liberals whether in Society Hill Philadelphia, New Jersey, LA, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA or even in Winter Park, FL. To hear that people in Bakersfield actually care about others and do things to help them in their community is a wonderful thing. Last edited by frozennortherner; 03-01-2008 at 03:43 AM. |

Don't understand your post. Are you equating the Democatic party with communism?
If so Bakersfield might just work for you. |

Also not all Democrats are Liberal. But there are some Liberals who are obviously for socialism. I have already voted for Democrats in the past for moral reasons who are very far from being liberal. In my city some of the Democrats in office are somewhat fiscally responsible unlike Gray Davis who almost doubled the cost for electricity in CA. Our current Liberal Governor though has greatly increased our State Taxes and others since he has been in office. Last edited by frozennortherner; 03-01-2008 at 01:31 PM. |

Didn't know the GOP had fallen on such hard times. When I lived in SF I used to vote for Republicans every once in a while because they were of the liberal persuasion. Anyone remember Milton Marks? Anyway good luck on your move.

If anyone knows a really nice Italian resturant (and I don't mean Olive Garden!
) in the Bakersfield area, post up, please![/quote]Canibeyou, Rosa's is a fantastic local Italian restaurant, if it's still there. It's on the east side of town, maybe on Mt. Vernon? You can look it up in the phone book. It's been years since I've been there but it was a landmark. Great pizza and everything else. Dawn |

There's a lot to be said about Bakersfield and none of it is good. Okay, well they have really nice Spring weather. Other than that, keep on driving. Don't stop!
The crime, gangs and drugs should be off the chart by now. Those who say differently are just chosing not to see it because they are stuck here and don't want to believe it. I have never seen so many rude people here. They just as soon run you off the road if you don't get out of their way. Or let's see, going to the grocery store where no one says "excuse me", they just ram their cart into your heels, or better yet, stand in the middle of the isles and chat on their cell phone or to a friend in person! Or push their cart right in front of you while you are looking at something on the shelf. No one has manners here. This town makes you want to move away where you don't have neighbors because you are thinking everyone is like the people here. It sucks! If you are thinking of moving here, I seriously wouldn't. Everyone here is in a bigger hurry then you are and believe me, they surely think they are much more important than you. Keep on driving, there is nothing here. It will just make you mean and inconsiderate like them just to survive here. After a while, you get tired of how mean people are here and you become mean back. You don't want to lower yourself to this town. It's not worth it. Our schools are filled with drugs and the so called "nice communities" are becoming infested with low lifes as well. You just can't seem to keep them out no matter where you move to. Even in a gated community. Dirt bags always seem to find ways to beat the system no matter where you live. You can never seem to move far enough away. It's the "haves" vs. the "have nots". If you have it and they want, believe me, they will get it. There is much more to see then Bakersfield and lot nicer places to live. |

I agree with Roaddog. This thread is about Bakersfield, not Los Angeles. Having spent a lot of time in each of them, I can assure you that Bakersfield is not as jonrox described, and even L.A. isn't that way everywhere. Perhaps he has seen this behavior in the places he goes, but I have been all over the city and rarely seen anything even close to what he describes. When I have seen that type of behavior, there is usually some clue that the offenders aren't even from Bakersfield. This usually occurs at the restaurants and gas stations next to the freeway, where people tend to stop as they pass through town. Perhaps this is the case with jonrox. Maybe he needs to spend some time away from the freeway to learn what Bakersfield is really like.

I live in San Diego, but will be moving to Bakersfield next year. I am originally from Bakersfield. With the cost of housing the way it is in San Diego, Bakersfield is looking really good. SD is beautiful and has lots to offer, but the prospect of living in a shoe box my entire life is unappealing.
I can't believe there is so much anomosity towards Bako on this board. What makes Bakersfield such a great place is the people. Awesome town to start a family: Good schools, increasingly more affordable homes, a growing town, and just an enjoyable place to live. I can't wait to move back. |
