I haven't been to Bakersfield in a long time but I have to applaud a place that supports "non-chain restaurants."

Los Angeles isn't very "chain-friendly" and I would hope that other towns would support local restaurants instead of the "same old cwap from the same old places."

It blows me away that a lot of towns think Sizzler is fine dining!

Pick any City in the Country and chances are you'll hear people complain about it,so what i've learned is to always keep an open mind about other places until you finally experienced it,because everyone has their preference.

But before you decide to move here, keep in mind that Bakersfield is not L.A,San Francisco,San Diego or Phoenix....Bakersfield is much Smaller and more Laid Back than those cities....The City has a population of only 320,000,but it is one of the fastest growing cities in the State.

Bakersfield has basically become a giant suburb of Los Angeles where everyone who can't afford to live in the city has moved. Thus it isn't much more than a ton of houses out in a flat valley, surrounded by smelly cows on all its borders in a hot climate of 100 + degrees in the summer. Bakersfield has sort of earned that So Cal stepchild label like Victorville, Lancaster, and Palmdale. If you want to live in California, its cheap, but I would rather live in another state that is cheap than Bakersfield. It is not the "California Dream" area of the state.

Bakersfield offers much more than Houses,Cows,etc....Some people like the View of the Mountains and Agriculture Fields. The Lakes and Rivers Nearby,The Outdoor Activities,The Nice Communities and Parks,The Laid Back Lifestyle and the Friendliness,The Growing Variety of Stores,Dining and Entertainment, and also the proximity to Southern CA and the Coast and some people even enjoy the Hot Dry Summers.

If Bakersfield was really so horrible, not even the Lower Prices for Homes would attract anyone or cause the population to grow so rapidly.

Bakersfield may not be for you,but their are many others who are happy there and enjoy it.

I would ignore posters like this, they don't live here and know nothing about Bakersfield, take peoples opinion that live in the county, their not going to make things up, good or bad.

I live in NYC metro area. I would love to check out Kern river , lake Isabella and other local fair in and around Bakersfield.

I've been to S.D. , L.A. and of course...Barstow.

It could be worse.

If you were in New Jersey your motto would be...
