Antioch is a suburb of the SF bay area. It has a minimal downtown and is mostly strip malls and vast numbers of tract homes. It is right on the delta, but most of Antioch's waterfront is industrial and kinda ugly. Unfortunately, Antioch grew too fast and with too little planning. Many of the houses were bought by investors who are now letting them go back to the bank or turning them into section 8 houses. Until recently, crime has been low; but it's on the rise. I personally know of 2 people robbed a gunpoint--something that used to be unheard of here. The schools have never been very good. Most people with kids either prefer to live in nearby Brentwood or they send their kids to private schools.

There are lots of better towns near Antioch that don't have Antioch's issues.

I have a co-worker who lives in Antioch. Based on what he says, you don't want to move there these days. Brentwood is further from San Francisco, but a lot better.

stay away from antioch

one short visit would give you a clear understanding of the problems the area faces

Stay clear of Antioch as others have posted. If you buy a home there, you'll get stuck unable to sell it and want to move because of all the crime. Many Antioch residents are prisoners in their own homes while waiting for the first chance to move to a better area.

Thumbs down no way!

My wife and i recently went house hunting in Antioch, there are some gorgeous homes for very good prices, in some cases 50% off list price but beware............while we were travelling from property to property, we felt like we were in the ghetto, it seems a lot of decent folk are moving out to better area's to get away from section 8 people, people my wife works with have told her that kids are being bussed in to school there daily from richmond to escape the gang problems there, so guess what will happen! anyone who buys property there i suspect won't be able to sell it in 5-10 years, my advice is to stay away, we are now looking in Brentwood where there are just as good property deals.

I'm seeing almost the Exact thing happening here in Redding too. I don't know if it is on such a larger scale, Yet, as Antioch, but it's really happening here in Redding too! Give it time.
Here's an interesting article I found. When I read it, it totally reminded me of Redding Now.
(PS still working hard on the OR, transfer)

Another reason I'm really in a hurry to leave Redding now. It's reminding me way too much of the Suburbs of LA quite a wile ago. Cam you know when.

Also, I was reading about a very sweet old man in French Gulch. He has lived in French Gulch all his life. He has been missing over a week now. And when the Articles about him being missing came up on Redding Record Searchlight, a regular with bad spelling & grammer that goes by the name, 'manuel', has some very Vulgar things to say. This was very disheartening, and I'm afraid it's becoming a very expected daily typical conversation style.
Very sad, when folks that have lived and worked hard in an area, welcome EVERYONE with open arms, only to be INSULTED repeatedly everyday!

I have to get my son out of Redding, CA, into another State because I know he will not stand a chance here now in his Construction field he's been working so hard on learning the past several years.
Sorry, Reddingites, just being Truthful!
