Thank you,theSock for replying.
We just return from an investigative journey to Brentwood. We found 2 rentals in Oakley that would be ok for the short-term. They were in mature neighborhoods with large trees that provided the much required shade for the non-stop sun that we experience.
But maybe you can direct me to places that might match our needs. I need woods within walking distance or biking distance. We currently live in the woods and 10mins. away from 10,000 acres of protected land. My son (4 yrs.) old & I have led hikes on the mountain since he was 8 mos. old.
The 2 houses we looked at had backyards that were designed in a way that you didn't notice the neighbors. The neighborhoods seemed nice enough but I've lived in the woods most of my life and feel more comfortable with trees as my neighbors.
Is it possible to find some nature to live with within 1 hour commute of Brentwood?
Thanks!
Peace,
Farmer's wife

You may want to consider Martinez or the area west of Brentwood off of Marsh Creek Rd towards Clayton. Both of those areas are more wooded. Of course, the downside of the woods is wildfires. You may have noticed on the news that we have a real problem with wildfires here in CA. Your other option would be to head east into the foothills. Property there will be cheaper, but you'll have a longer commute.
