Maybe Sacramento, Fresno, or the Inland Empire. Not sure about the abundance of trees though.

If you are looking for a decent sized city than Sacramento would be your best bet.

However if your open to small towns there are a ton of options. Chico, Redding, Eureka, Arcata, etc.

Visalia and Fresno are both very green. You can buy a brand new 2500sqft Centex home for under 300K. Though as you'll find all over this website, central california is not the same as Socal or Bay area, which is what most people think of when they think CA. Visalia is pretty nice. 118K people. 2 malls, only 1 is good. A really nice downtown. Several movie theaters. Tulare outlet mall is 5 miles down the road.

Visalia also has home builders, McMillin, DR Horton, lennar, Meritage, all for under 300K, some with pretty nice floor plans. Not to mention a lot of the older homes in nice neighborhoods. If you were to seriously consider Visalia, the newest part of town is the Northwest. The nicer parts of town include the NW, SW, some SE. NE is variable and NC is gang teritory, though there are some nice ethnic resturants there. Best of luck.

That's $120/sqft. I'd have to drive out to the outskirts..........of Huntsville Alabama to get a nice home for that price.

What line of work are you in? Retired? Work from home? Do you need to be near a city or metro for work?

Oh? Sales moving along in California are they? I read that less than 19% of the population in "Cali" can buy a median priced house there. I laughed when I read that.

I can buy a house in most areas in Fla for 120/ft and less. Much less in many places at this point. I was just wondering.

We work from home. My business is in my profile. Should be self explanatory. No interest in reaching for silly priced houses however. We own what we're in and don't have to sell even when we find the next pad. Probably will though as the $$ would be better off in my business than in an immovable object.

What kind of work do you do? Retired? Own a home or renting? I see you are not even in California. Might I ask what experience you have with regards to my inquiry?

Need cable high speed internet and access to gourmet and Asian grocery stores etc.Quaint area.

Sacramento is recognized as a "tree" city. Many, many places in this state that are environmentally aware and plant trees and shrubs and parks and beautify with plants and encourage homeowners to do the same. Xeriscaping is big here; native plants awareness is high.
Everywhere in CAlifornina home prices have fallen dramaticly. Not sure how well the websites have kept up and current with this.
Santa Maria is a local hotspot with investors and homebuyers buying far under the 3 mark.
And...don't forget foreclosures! Very many of them priced to sell! It is a great time to buy! Interest rates are still at amazing lows, but who knows for how long? The Fed just announced that they will not lower rates anymore sooo.....they are as low as they will be and will only go up from here.
