Default What do you all think about a move to Ojai?

Hello All:
This is my first post. I have been thinking a lot about a move to Ojai and my husband and I are going down to visit the end of June. We live outside of Seattle and I just can't take another endless gloomy winter. Ojai sounds great because of the weather, the close proximity to the beach, the small size and the many cultural type things to do. Can anyone inform me of the downsides? Thanks so much.
Peacewoman

You might consider starting a new thread for your question, or search the forums for existing threads on Ojai instead of going off topic here.

But to answer your question, Ojai is a nice place. Don't let the proximity to the ocean fool you. Though only 12 or so miles inland, the ocean influence is blocked by mountains and the temps in summer can be 30-40 degrees warmer than at the beach. This may or may not be a downside depending on the individual. One downer that's cause for constant complaining is traffic. There is basically one way in/out of Ojai, and it's mostly two lanes. Rush hour can be a bit of a hassle.

This link is very helpful regarding states with the number of disasters. Look at NC (purple). I had no idea North Carolina had so many disasters. California (green).

That's an interesting map,but I think CA should have a more variety of colors than just Green, since some parts of this state are more prone to diasters while others are not.

I'm also surprised that NC is in purple.

Yeah, we paid the map makers off to scare off any new transplants!

isn't NC supposed to be pretty prone to hurricanes on the coast? That probably accounts for it. Who knows though, isn't there a saying about lies, damn lies, and statistics?

CA once was a nice place to live. Coming from the San Fernando Valley it has been really hard to see the changes. Change is good, however not when it means English isn't spoken anymore. Check out the Burbank and Glendale area.....you think you are in Armenia. The traffic has gotten so bad that you had better plan to spend no less than an hour in your car in your commute to work, and that's if you live with 10 miles of your job!!!! Forget about the fun you might want to have on your day off. CA is a place to make big bucks if you are fortunate enough to get one of those jobs and then you can retire like I did and cash out and get the hell out!!!

CA is still a nice place to live, but it's all about Location or Income that makes a difference whether you'll love it here or hate it.

CA borders Mexico,so of course you'll hear Spanish Spoken in this state, but English is still widely spoken.

I'm sorry that CA didn't work out for you,but their are still many others such as myself that love it here

I have been in NC for 24 years and I can only think of 2 hurricanes that have even gotten the attention of the population here. I am surprised NC is ranked so highly. Really, not much of anything goes on here.
