Hi, am new to this but I am really needing information about Exeter vs. Chico Paradise area vs. Lompoc/Orcutt area. I am originally from southern california and now leaving in a small town in the south west of france. I am looking for a small town with an open mind (culture wise and alternative medicine) a few good restaurants, and good schools. Where I live now is beautiful, but it is France and I want to come home. Is there any suggestions??

I would look into Clovis, Fresno, Visalia. Possibly Reedley as well, although it's smaller.

We are currently in Northern California and are looking to relocate to Central California. I understand the air quality isn't the best in Central California....are there "any cities" where breathing is possible???
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I live in the East bay, California, close to Central California.I doubt you can find something for 1500/month,as rental prices are now high . I have 2 kids in school, & they are good schools, the one problem I have is crowding/traffic to & from schools. Oh, yeah, you may want to check out schools calendars (online is avail) because my kids get about 8 weeks off for summer. Not sure if that would work for you.
Air here...Almost everybody here has Allergies!
About feeling safe, We haven't had any really bad problems. Things can happen anywhere!
Well, Hope this helps & good luck 2 ya

San Luis Obispo has great air quality and is a really nice place to live. There is very little crime here, and I haven't seen any evidence of gangs. There is cultural stuff here, and I believe the schools are good. Now, affordable housing? No, lol, I think not.
Maybe Paso Robles would be a good fit???

I was a in-home licensed day care provider for 4 years when I lived in Ventura. My business was in my home which is what a lot of people like for their children. It's small and intimate just as if they were home themselves with their children. Many people prefer this to huge daycare centers.
On the "Cali" term... I find it a tad annoying but noticed that the 20 somethings are the ones using it, like my kids. It's probably from the music they listen to. Even if LLCoolJ used it 10 yrs ago I still think it's referenced in the music they listen to today. I also think that the "Frisco" term was used by my parents generation; the WW2 generation to be more exact.

exeter or any other small green california town
Hi I am looking to move back to california, I am from sothern california (now living in the south west of france) and know very little about central or northen california. Exeter seems nice because its so close to Yosimite but I cna not find any nice pictures of the town itself (other then the water tank). Is it a green hilly town? Are there big trees? Is there a big smog problem? Any help would be great and any suggestions into other towns to research would be wonderful too. Thank you so much and I am glad I found city-data.

I've never been to Exeter, but lived in the San Joaquin Valley for 34 years. The entire valley from Sacramento to Bakersfield has a smog problem. I seriously doubt it is hilly or green. Well, it might be hilly, but is probably more brown. The valley is technically a desert. It is very hot and dry in the summer, and foggy in the winter. I really don't know if Exeter is in the flat-as-a-pancake valley or if it is close enough to the foothills to be hilly. It really isn't close to Yosemite, either. Merced is closer. I know I'm not giving you much useful info specific to Exeter, just beware that the air quality in the Valley is the worst anywhere, and it is very hot in the summer. If you are looking for hills and trees, close to Yosemite, try Oakhurst.
I don't like that this thread lumps all of central California together.
The central coast is nothing like the central valley. A person should narrow down their search to just the valley or just the coast first.

Exeter is a good 2 hours or more from the Yosemite valley floor. It's closer to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks. If you want to live near Yosemite, I'd look into Oakhurst or Coarsegold or Mariposa.
Hilly? No, not the town itself, but it is near some foothills.
Green? Yes, for a couple months in the spring, perhaps.
There is an air quality problem, not specifically a smog problem. The entire San Joaquin Valley does have air quality problems. Exeter is not the worst area for AQ, but it's part of the overall affected area.
