but as mentioned, the same old urban planning and building, just sprawling...but tell me where in the US isn't going thorugh that. no architect or anything what's so ever.
Actually Fresno is turning back inward. New housing being built in downtown. New projects like the amusement park and Cabo Wabo south of Fresno State in an older neighborhood.

I think the new state court of appeals building downtown is nicely designed.

Amusement park? Where? Where is Cabo Wabo going to be?

At Granite Park, on the old Harpain Dairy. That is on Cedar between Ashlan and Dakota.

Cabo Wabo was supposed to open at Granite Park last month with Sammy Hagar playing in May. But construction delays have pushed that back. Sammy still plans to play for several days when Cabo Wabo opens this summer.

The amusement park is not a collection of kiddie rides, but will include large rides among its 24 attractions. The rides include:
** The 1/2 mile long, 69 foot tall Lightning Bolt roller coaster that used to be at the MGM in Vegas
** The log ride that also used to be at the MGM
** A double-decker carousel with hand-carved animals
** A ride like "Survivor the Ride" located in Santa Clara
** A 60 foot tall, 60 mph pendulum ride like the one at Knott's Berry Farm

So far at Granite Park they have built several baseball and soccer fields for community leagues. They have open already a new Me-n-Eds concept called Victory Grill which is a sports bar and grill. Photos and menu at: Me-N-Ed's Victory Grill - Home - Restaurant & Sports Bar, Merced, Atwater, Livingston

There is also an Irish Pub open, which includes a bar and decor imported from Ireland. Some pictures here: Welcome to Desert Millwork, LLC (broken link)

Now that we are on the topic of Fresno. I hear that there has been some ICE operations as well, removing illegal immigrants? Anyone can confirm this with more information or so?

About the Fresno schools--it's a shame people just keep repeating the old stereotypes--in fact, this year US News and World Report cited a number of Fresno schools for top honors. The one I've got family members involved with was rated #36 in the nation in its category. Fresno is improving in many ways. It doesn't deserve to be kicked around constantly.

That would be University High. Only 6 high schools in California were ranked higher.

At Fresno High, the oldest high school in the city, they started an International Baccalaureate program a couple of years ago. That provides a rigorous educational program also.

We got out by finding a job elsewhere. We couldn't afford anywhere else in CA, so we left the state. We took a loss on our house and downsized just a little, but now I get to be a stay at home mom for the first time. I couldn't have done that in CA.

That wasn't a murder, a police officer was attacked by an emotionally disturbed teenager with a baseball bat and responded.

You are aware it is now safer in Fresno than in San Francisco.
So far this year Fresno (population 486,000) has had 15 murders.
San Francisco (population 824,500) has had 41 murders this year.

I have neighbors who came to Fresno 5 years ago from San Jose and prefer Fresno/Clovis. They say it reminds them of the South Bay 20 years ago when they grew up before it changed up there, and they like raising their kids in the same atmosphere. It is all personal preference.

We live off of Kings Canyon&Ventura who named these streets anyways?
Streets like Ventura were named by the railroad when it founded the city. Running north to south the downtown streets were named for the California counties.

Side note to rkb0305, have you gone for a taste of Fresno back there in Denver? DiCicco's now has locations in Denver and Aravada. Yes the same DiCicco's family from Fresno.
