For someone moving to Fresno from out of town or out of state, it is all relative. There are certainly worse places to live, and certainly better places.

That is a very good way to put it. Unfortunately some people feel that if something isn't right for them then they want to bash it because of course it isn't right for anyone.
Its like my marriage. I'm a good person but have flaws. But my wife accepts and loves me anyway. And I accept and love her in spite of her flaws.
We could focus mainly on those flaws and make ourselves miserable. But instead we are honest, accept the flaws exist and focus on the positives in each other instead.
Now other people may not be able to accept my flaws. I have ex-girlfriends who focused only on my negatives and felt they outweighed my good qualities. But thats OK, the negatives were things that were important in life to them. I still found someone with whom to build a home.
Its the same thing with places to live. We each have things that are important to us in a hometown. But things important to one person are different for another. That's why we all don't live in the same place.
But for someone to bash a city or town just because it isn't right for them? Makes me wonder where our California tolerance for the differences in life went.

Gotta agree (sort of...)
Unfortunately I’m going to have to agree with what fresnoblows was getting at…not really the way it was expressed however. The Hispanic population is dominate, or almost, but it sure isn’t a reason to make that kind of statement. However the air here is horrible, there is a lot of graffiti, most of the people are rude, the schools aren’t good (except for Clovis schools), the job market is bad, gangs are on the rise and I don’t see anything getting better. The only good thing is the mountains are so close and that’s really about it. I’ve been actively trying to get out of Fresno for the last 5-6 months and I’ve only been here about 3 years. I’ve lived a lot of places from Orange County to Seattle to Cincinnati to Albuquerque and have experienced and love a diverse culture and area. I really tried to like this city but this is by far the worst of any city I’ve been in. Kudos to those that enjoy it here, I just simply don’t see how when there’s so much more enjoyable places out there. Good luck all.

Later fresno!!!!!!
…“Hot, smog-clouded and buttressed by mountains, Fresno has the highest incidence of asthma in the state. Some 16 percent of children suffer from shortness of breath, wheezing and nonstop coughing. Only New York and Chicago have higher rates.”…
…“A number of studies, including a University of California project focusing on Fresno, are in progress to examine the link between filthy air and surging asthma. Genetics, race, income and home life are all under scrutiny. Other asthma hot spots besides Fresno include Solano and Marin counties, both with asthma rates almost double the state average.”… out of the SF Chronicle
City Rating.com (AND OTHERS INCLUDING THIS SITE) shows Fresno is 1.30 times above the National Average for overall crime
school-ratings.com (AND OTHERS) show the majority of Fresno’s schools (all grades) rank below 4 (1-10, 10 being best) in test scores.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY!!! FAR,FAR AWAY!!!

Good Luck, I hope you find your happiness wherever you are headed. I sincerely mean that. Life is too short to be miserable and unhappy, and what makes us happy is different for everyone.
By the way, Fresno was just ranked 37 out of the 50 largest cities for its sustainability and environmental factors, ahead of Long Beach, Colorado Springs, Nashville and others. If it weren't for air quality (which is improving) it would be ranked higher.

when my son's immunologist suggest we get out of the valley for his health, that was enough for us. It might be fine for you, but I've found the grass to be much greener elsewhere.

It’s fine if a person has a opinion on the valley or Fresno that is backed up with facts or experiences but Fresno sucks shows neither of these qualities.
My experience has been that before I moved to the valley I had asthma and allergies, I had a shot each week to control them, but after a year I was able to stop the shots and was fine, go figure. The only time I’ve had either of these again was in LA.
None of my family or any friend I’ve had here has had problems with asthma of allergies so people making it sound as if your going to fall over dead is just ridiculous, most of the posters throwing out these type of comments have never lived here and know nothing of what it’s like and these comments are childish, my opinion on them is that they have no life and feel as if they need to run down something to make themselves feel better about their pathetic life, I’ve lived in many places and I have no urge or need to run any of them down, but then I’m an adult and use my brain for better things than childish remarks

i drove through Fresno a few weeks to and from Yosemite and was quite surprised with how nasty the air looked in the valley. It was pretty much the same all the way to the grapevine. i live in LA and really don't see how our air could be worse. maybe the particulate matter floating around in fresno isn't as unhealthy as it is in LA, i dunno.
