to put my 2 cents in, I live in "East" Bakersfield AKA the Hispanic, migrant part of Bakersfield and I am white (not racist BTW). Never have I had any problems, I live right by the old mesa marin racetrack they tore down. Lots of really nice new construction in this part of town "away from the choppers that fly at night. Never define an area by a people's race, it is wrong but oildale is what I might consider "white trash": welfare, unemployed, meth users. Some pockets of oildale are so so but they will steal anthing not tied down for the next hit of "meth" I know this, I have had many people to stay away from this area when I relocated. I enjoy all parts of town but poverty has a way of making people desperate and steal and use drugs to forget their problems, just a fact of life!

well im not wat u mean by sayn a run down hispanic area..my mother in law actually lives in oildale who happends to be white..lol and i really dont see many hispanics in that area..mostly just white predgudice ppl...who hate blacks,,hispanic,,asian..pretty much anyone but whites...its all white trash ppl...there...but not all..some dont have a choice...oh by the way...north east is a very good part of town...ok if u have kids..consider ur nighbors..if u r going to move in rosedale or haggn oaks area..be sure to check out the nighbors..u dont want to move next to ppl who hate kids...i live in sliver creek..which supposable is a upper middle class..anyways,,,ppl there can be so uptight and complain if kids play ball outside...oppose to the north east where ppl are more mellow and dont call the cops for stupid things such as ....getting ur sprinkler water on their lawn..or playn ur music loud..or at least they think its loud..i live in sliver creek..and have had all this happend to me..i think u need to move to a part of town u feel comfotable in..but also for ur kids...it sucks when u move to a stuck up part of town...

I have to laugh at comments that say Oildale is white, My parents live there and I have quite a few in-laws and friends who live there, I grew up there, Oildale has been taken over by hispanics, especialy s. of norris road, there are only 3 white families livong on my parents street, oildale wasn't a bad place to live many years ago unless you lived in the riverview area s. of roberts lane then it got better as you went N., there are areas that are not bad but there are areas I wouldn't want to get caught in, a lot of drug dealers in certian areas. it's funny how Oildake continues to be known as a white racist area when thats really not the way it is anymore.

There is a German restaurant across from Kern Medical Center on the East side of town. I haven't been there myself, but some of my friends went on a lunch break.
