Moving to Plumas County??
How is it raising kids in Plumas county, any drawbacks? I am coming from San Diego (a big city) where I was born and raised. I am not sure what small town life is like. Also is it difficult to find employment or to survive financially?

I love Plumas county and the area around Quincy. It's a nice place to visit. As for living there, I don't know if there are many jobs. Quincy is the county seat, so there may be some government jobs and there is a 2 year community college there Feather River College - Quincy, CA. The town also has a small hospital. Shopping is limited. There is a Safeway and some other stores there, but no big box stores. You would have to go to Reno or Chico for that.
But Plumas county is a great and safe place for kids if they love the outdoors - a slow pace of life .

Concur with HRat, I would be concerned about the employment picture. Pretty area, though.

Thank you for your responses, they are helpful. I love the area, I have found a few employment opportunities, but I think the hardest thing I am having to deal with is moving away from my family. We have a 6 month old son and I have never lived away from them. But I do think our relationship would be better if I did live somewhere else.

My husband and I both grew up there. We moved away when our kids were little. Many pros and cons. Just depends on your situation.
Each community is very different, though. Worth taking some time to check it out. For instance, Chester and Portola are very different, Greenville and Graeagle, and so on. Hard to assess Plumas County as a whole because of that.
Good luck with your decision!

Most people leave rural norcal because they can't find a job. A few return to raise kids but find that their kids leave for the same reasons they did.
beware.

We love the No CA back woods living. However if you are in need of a job you have to shop the obituaries.

Anybody please opinions on Portola or Westwood. I have to choose between these two towns for retirement. I am over 60 and have been living in Chile for the last 5 years.
