Default Russian River

Hello to Everyone! I am looking to go back "home" and want to settle in the Russian River area. One of the small towns on the meandering Russian River. Monte Rio, Guerneville, Forestville, Duncan's Mills, etc... can anyone give me any info on homes, jobs, rentals...??

It is a gorgeous area with expensive housing and no jobs... a lot of SF money up there I guess. I have looked into it for a cabin from time-to-time but it seems pricey for what is basically a rural area with no job market.

Such a nice area. It seems somewhat prone to flooding, though, based on what I remember seeing and reading during my Bay Area days.

Of course depending on what kind of job you are looking for you can find one in Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Petaluma etc. Russian River area has many down to earth people. Lovely area.

Yes, I am very down to earth and pretty humble, really. I have a county job now, and 7 years of experience as an administrative assistant so should be able to apply my skills SOMEWHERE! How many driving minutes is Santa Rosa from Monte Rio?

I think it is about 25 minutes. Depends where in Santa Rosa you are heading and traffic.

I can't tell where you're writing from but county jobs are not going to be easy to get in California this year. Our county is laying off and the State is balancing its huge deficit on the counties' backs. Sonoma County must have a website and you can read the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat online. If I had a good job I'd be very wary about giving it up , given the current economy, until I knew I had another job. These are not normal times.Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Default Russian River Short Term Rental

If you are looking to relocate to the sonoma/russian river area maybe a short term rental will help while you find the perfect place. I have a new home that is 3 bedroom/2 bath that I am looking to rent for 3 to 6 months. It is furnished completely and is on a fenced 1/4 acre lot with a small vineyard, big deck with a hot tub and views of the giant redwoods. Lots of picture available. It is 1-2 blocks to the river and town

The area is quite prone to flooding as previously mentioned. Many of the homes close to the Russian River have to built on stilts to try and avoid being flooded. If you don't know, the Russian River area is also considered a haven for the gay lifestyle - particularly Guerneville. If the alternative lifestyle affends you, I wouldn't move there as it is unavoidable.
