looking for liberal place to live in southern california
I'm looking for a liberal community-minded city or town in Southern California. I'm not interested in living in an urban center but rather a more rural setting. I'm not interested in trendy people, just straight-forward nature-loving folks. It doesn't matter how expensive it is, as long as it has those qualities. (of course inexpensive is preferable) And one more thing... I don't want to live anywhere with desert-like conditions. I hope you can help change my world! Thanks in advance

Ojai Valley is full of artists/writers & very friendly/open-minded.

i'd say anywhere within a 30-45 minute drive of santa barbara would be a good fit for you (which includes ojai).

There are liberals everywhere in California and as they gravitate towards the beaches and cooler areas, you shouldn't have any problem finding a place to live that is not desert-like conditions. I think if you look at blue vs red counties you will find the red ones being more inland overall.
Ojai is a good option, but although it isn't desert per se, it is pretty hot in the summer. But it fits the bill as far as the type of people that live there. I think you could find a lot of areas you would like in Central CA and on up the coast through San Francisco and maybe even further north than that. I would think Napa and those areas would be excellent, and incredibly beautiful landscape at that.

Rural in San Diego or LA County means highly conservative. Ventura or Central Coast is probably the same. The liberal areas are the cities where most of the population lives. Liberal and Rural is more of a Norcal, Pac NW thing. Places like Eugene Oregon come to mind.

OK, what is your limit? $100K, $200K, $500K, $1M, $2M? Anything more than that and you wouldn't be asking questions like yours on City Data. You'd hire someone to figure it out for you.
