Question Yreka, Ca vs. Albany, Or

I will likely have two job offers, one in Yreka, Ca and one in Albany, Or. I have written a list of plusses and minuses for both and am completely flummoxed. The lists are very different, yet neither comes out as the easy choice. I am interested in anyone else's opinion, especially anyone who has spent lots of time in both places.

I've only driven thru Yreka. It seemed friendly enough to me. One time our alternator went out & was fixed at a gas station thar. There is probably more snow in winter in Yreka. I've not been to Albany.

Some folks on the, www.oregonfishingforum.com say they like Albany.

Best of Luck with your choice Bro.

Albany's the bigger town. I only know both from passing through, but it seems there's more to do in Albany. It's probably worth a trip out to see both. It would be a long weekend to see both, but it would make the choice easier; at least easier than sight unseen.

Both are in beautiful areas. Yreka is more rural and isolated, but surrounded by beautiful country. A gorgeous view of Mount Shasta from there. If you are coming with a spouse or hope to find one, it could be tough because it is a bit small. Onely about an hour from Medford / Ashland area though, which is very nice. I live in Ashland and love it (except the overpriced real estate).

Albany is in the middle of the Willamette Valley. Long, rainy, cloudy winters up there, but cooler summers and greenery all around. Fairly close to very nice towns. Corvallis is about 10 miles west, Eugene, 35 miles south, Portland 80 miles north or so. Coast an hour or so west, Cascades an hour or so east. Pretty nice. Probably more affordable than Yreka, as it was not a mecca for retiring Californians during the bubble. Albany is nice enough, but not a destination for anyone. Just a place to live.

Best of luck!
