Default Atascadero ain't bad

I'm pretty floored by the negative attitude about Atascadero on this site. The perception given here isn't telling the story acurately. No jobs: Tell me a city in SLO Co. with an abundance of "good" jobs? none. The cities in this county are in close proximity to each other. Most people here travel to a different city to work every morning anyway. And truth be known a TON of people around the entire county work in Atascadero. Like it or not, the gov't provides most of the "good" jobs here (SLO Co.). Yes, that mental hospital is a major employer. So what, we're lucky to have it. No downtown to speak of: I agree. They blew it on that one. But I'm sure it was totally sufficient when the town was A LOT less populated, which was really not that long ago. Have you ever seen the downtown of Los Osos? It's about the same. But I don't feel cheated. San Luis Obispo is only 10 minutes away, if I want a downtown. Besides, tell me ANY city in this county that has a downtown anywhere close to SLO's? none. Paso Robles' is getting there. But still a distant second. Good 'Ol boy politics: Whatever, I don't know,I don't live there. Anyway, is that unique to Atascadero? I don't think so. You should see the politics in Morro Bay and Los Osos. Actually, anywhere in this county! A haven for right-wing religious zealots and red-necks: C'mon, I don't type fast enough to bother addressing that. Well, Ok, yes more people in Atascadero wear cowboys hats than in San Luis Obispo or Morro Bay. What does that prove? nothing. To brand the town that way is irresposible. Wow, I'm writing too much. Ill tell you why I think it's nice place to live on my next post.

You will just have to learn to brush it off, There are people who can't wait to bash anothers town, it used to bother me too but the more you get upset the more they will attack you, just laugh at them and they will look foolish.
Don't let them upset you because that is exactly what their trying to do, they need to run others down to make themselves feel good.
Atascadero is a good place

I think Atascadero is a beautiful place. Lots of hills, lots of green. Nice weather (at least it can cool down at night!) close to the beach. I hope to be able to work at that state hospital some day. Great pay and makes Atascadero affordable, especially compared to SLO. Cost of living great compared to costal SLO county. Besides, Mission Viejo used to be considered the boondocks of Orange County, no look at it!

I agree. I think its one of the nicest places to live. Nice weather. 20 minutes to the ocean. Covered in trees (it's unique in that respect to other cities in this county). The neighborhoods are beautiful (small rolling hills, dotted with beautiful oak and pine trees). No other city in SLO Co. looks like that. Strong sense of community. Or, at least strong when it comes to their kids and school sports. I don't know, it's nice place, OK? It's late, I'm going to bed.

Pick any Town or City in this State and chances are you'll eventually find someone that will have something negative to say about the place.

I've been to Atascadero and found it to be a nice place

That, I don't know. In those areas, I'm really only familiar with Morro Bay, Los Osos and a bit in the city of SLO.
