The Town Center Mall is like any regular indoor mall, it's two stories. You have Sears, Gottschalks, and I believe a Macy's and your cornerstone stores, plenty of eateries. There is soon going to be a major renovation on the south end of the store to accommodate a multi screen theater. One thing I have to say, there are a lot of empty stores in that mall.

They have plenty of parking with two multi story parking structures. It is right across the strret from the police station and they do have their own security as well.

So it sounds like when the theater is open in 2009 the empty spaces will be filled and the mall can start retrofitting a bit to look nicer. I would imagine if the mall can't pick up pace and get better stores after the theater is built then it would be torn down and built into a lifestyle shopping center.

How many empty spots r there?

You need to take a trip to Minneapolis and go to The Mall of America. If you like malls you need to go see that one.

"The City" certainly does. I could see if you lived in most other parts of the country where a large enclosed mall is great due to inclement weather most of the year, but along the coast of central through southern california, it's a waste. That is no doubt why there aren't that many enclosed malls. Like another post stated, take a trip to the Mall of America (520 stores) near Minneapolis or even the Palisades Center Mall (250 stores) in West Nyack, NY. The largest mall in North America is the West Edmontin mall in Canada. It has an indoor wave pool and about 800 stores. That should give you your fill of enclosed malls. Probably enough to last you a lifetime.

For large malls closer to the central coast, see here: Largest Shopping Malls in the United States

What does this information really matter? Would someone move into or out of a city based on whether its mall is "better" or "worse" than a mall hundreds of miles away? It's a middle-income area, and the mall reflects that.

what about compared to Valley Plaza Mall, Bayshore Mall, Hanford Mall, Chico Mall, and Merced Mall?

After I get my bachelor degree for city planning at Cal Poly Pomona (would be looking probably in 2012-2012 for a city planner job), so I was thinking Santa Maria, Thousand Oaks, San Luis Obispo, Clovis, Gilroy, and Salinas were the potential areas to look at. Of course, I have still have one year of high school left, but after high school I'm going straight to Cal Poly Pomona for 4 years and then from there I have to look for a job.

I do plan on having 2 kids one day, so me being a city planner in Santa Maria I would focus on getting more public schools built to relieve the gang problems at the public high schools. I don't really mind the traffic in the area, and if I want to avoid living in Santa Maria I could try Orcutt. But I think there are some good areas in Santa Maria, and I could always send my kids to Pacific Valley Christian Private School. And if the mall one day ever dies, it would most likely be converted into a lifestyle shopping center.
