California and Texas are alot alike in many ways.

1. They're both Southwestern states
2. They're both warm all year round
3. They both have a city thats polluted, but otherwise awesome, extremely populated, and are on a coast (LA for CA) (Houston for Texas)
4. Both have some of the fastest growing economies in the world.
5. They're both giant in size.
6. They both have alot of Mexican culture
7. They both make good Mexican food
8. Both states were part of Mexico.
9. Both have a state they make fun of right outside of them that start with the letter O (Oregon for California, Oklahoma for Texas)

Its true.... California and Texas are practically brothers.

Good summary that I agree with but Californians don't bag on Oregon. We like Oregon but Oregon folk do not like Californian’s

There are, of-course differences [esp politics] but the similarities are quite noteworthy. Spanish colonies at one time\ republics\ high concentration of Hispanics w/ good food.

I don't think Californians make fun of Oregonians. We don't want them to hate us even more than they already do.

California and Texas are not necessarily both Southwestern. So Cal may be Southwestern, but the Bay Area and far northern California like Eureka are not really "Southwestern" in culture or geography. Texas is sort of a split. We lived in Beeville outside of San Antonio which had a Southwestern feel, while Houston seems to relate much more to the Southeast and the culture of places like New Orleans or Atlanta. Both states are not clear cut Southwestern. They are so big they are like their own region.

Actually Texas is in the Southwest while California is a Pacific Coast state, along with Oregon and Washington.

Many cities are polluted, if not most large cities. California has several major coastal cities including San Diego and San Fransisco while Texas has only Houston. Funny how many CA cities start out with a three letter word...

Neither California nor Texas are giant in size. I believe you must have meant Alaska which actually is giant in size.

Neither California nor Texas have good Mexican food. That would be New Mexico with the good Mexican food.

Californians do not make fun of Oregon, or at least I haven't ever noticed anybody doing that. I can't say about Texas and Oklahoma.

I guess you could say there is a Pacific West to be slightly more specific, but in the end, it is all just "The West."

I have heard of it varying so I do agree it depends on how someone wants to say it. None the less, Houston is the major city of Texas and is still culturally Southern like Georgia or Lousiana. The Bay Area is also not culturally Southwestern.

Also, both places have a large body of water. California has the Pacific Ocean and Texas has the Gulf of Mexico.

I don't find L.A and Houston similar at all...in L.A you have the Mountains and Mild Weather,while Houston is flat and experiences more extreme weather..Summer water temperature at the beaches are also different in these 2 cities
