So beautiful! I love going up to the north coast. Mendocino and the Redwoods are my favorite places to visit.

It doesn't get any better than Avenue of the Giants, except for possibly the Lost Coast, Mattole Rd and Ferndale. This is without question the most beautiful area in the United States. I am salivating over these pictures.

Are you sure
Check out the panoramas and enlargements from the Redwoods 2 album at this page, and mouse-over click of the images:
World's Largest Known Redwoods in Jed Smith and Prairie Creek Redwoods
Here is one sample - Iluvatar, second largest coast redwood
..........McGowdog, you got some nice poison-oak shots with those redwoods - leaves and vines. I've seen that plant grow with up to 3" diameter trunks on redwoods, to almost 200 feet high.

I have driven the Lost Coast highway all the way from Ferndale into southern Humboldt to Redway at 101. It is a good 80 mile drive on a mix of small 2 lane asphalt, gravel and dirt roads. It is an awesome drive. The drive from the north starts in Ferndale not far from the Victorian Inn. Stop at the Ferndale meat company and get some great hardy sandwiches and make it a day.
