Smile Employment opps

I am thinking of moving to California with husband and two young children from England. I am a US citizen but never lived there.
I work as a Careers Advisor (have a post-grad cert in careers guidance and a BA hons degree in marketing) and work with young people in care of social services.
What type of opportunities exist in California in this type of work, what does it pay?
Interested in the Monterey bay/Santa cruz areas as have great memories of childhood visits. Seems expensive to live there, but not sure what I could earn?
Also my husband is a self employed plasterer/decorator what job opps for him?
Thanks v much

They are expensive. Are you planning on renting or buying? I would say you should most likely look toward the public sector for employment. Say the county, city, state, school district, college and universities. Your husband? the economy is slow. The tradesman are having a tougher time right now. But that's everywhere. I'm sure he can employment though, especially if he's talented. But again, I'm speaking in generalities, I live 2hrs. south.
