Because it sucks there. If he's going from NYC to a place like Bakersfield he'll end up regretting it like nothing else in his life.

How do you know that? You should let the people who know bakersfield give their opinion instead of bashing a place you don't live.

Sometimes people want a change from a hectic big city life to a more slower paced lifestyle.

What else is to know. I was there for 3 days for work and was willing to drive into LA after my meetings just to escape the place. 3 days was more than enough time for me to shape my opinion.

You're right case is closed. There is nothing to see there. It's a stopping point if you happen to get lost on your way to LA and veer off 5. There is a city in the Bay Area that is almost identical to Bakersfield, it's called Concord. Same weather, same demographics, Same nothingness. Only difference is Concord is surrounded by places worth living in.

Perhaps you can enlighten us about the cons of staying in Bakersfield. Otherwise, repeating things like "there's nothing to see in Bakersfield" isn't going to offer any constructive feedback to the original poster.

"nothing to see" sounds like a tourist board comment. I don't think even most Bakersfield residents would consider it a place for a non-resident to vacation anymore than Oakland or Concord are considered vacation spots.
But this board is about living there, not spending 2 or 3 days on a vacation. Things that people want in a place to live (housing, employment, friends and neighbors, etc.) are different than a weekend getaway.

1. It's too hot.
2. There are no great places to eat.
3. There is nothing to do at night or during the day for that matter.
4. It's not visually appealing
5. All Around BORING.
There is a reason everybody I went to college with who happen to be from Bakersfield HATED it. But if you enjoy it so be it.
