Bakersfield
You're better off looking somewhere in the south or Texas. It's warm, there are alot of college towns with younger people, and the cost of living is much lower than Bakersfield. I was born and raised in Bakersfield and lived there until I was 18. I left when I joined the Navy, and the biggest reason I joined was to get away from that place.

a troll? excuse me i am most certainly NOT a troll. I have lived here 7 years, prior to this Tehachapi which was great but work commute too long. Keepthefaith: nice name BTW, cause you need it in this lousy podunk town. Property taxes; too high, sales tax: ditto: payroll tax: check. DMV tax: outrageous. Oh yeah that's if you have a new car only that the DMV taxes are so high and actually a new truck since I work every damn day for you lovely bakersfield folks who are so lovely to deal with. Raising kids here is hell. School resources are all taken by non english speakers and my kids are left overs because since they actually are smart, they are not a concern to get the beloved test scores up.
Oh culture here is great: one great museum, not counting CALM, where i can see animals I would usually see in the hills when i go hiking. unemployment is just below 10% and getting higher. House repos are the highest in the country, less property txes coming in: less money for services. Well I can say this: I haven't been bothered by cops and when I get pulled over they just let me go, since I DO have a valid license AND insurance. Well i am indeed a TROLL for living here, but more the type that you see on lord of the rings, not in these forums.
To anyone thinking about living here, add to the list of Bakersfield gifts: valley fever, asthma due to smog from all the trucks going through I5 highway unregulated.
Stay away like an I-Pod with no tunes, it'll leave you feeling blue.
How's that for a troll?

oh, BTW, the people posting here who love B-Town are just a sample of the intelligence that lingers in Bakersfield. The smog clogs their neuro-receptors and it's not long until their conservative views have them so scared that all they do is stay home and post on these forums.

Bakersfield...no thanks. I 'lived' there for 2 months and have been there to play shows/do work stuff for many years now and I don't think anyone could afford the amount they would have to pay me to live there. I was by myself for two months, living out of a hotel room driving all over the place trying to find stuff to do and I found absolutely nothing. All the 'good' things that have been listed about B-field can be found nearly everywhere else in the nation, but most of the 'bad' thing can only be found in Bakersfield... A better choice would be Santa Maria, at least you're close to the beach.

I would definitely recommend it. Being able to rent a 1 bedroom for 500/month sure kicks butt. Don't listen to these other people. Only live near the coats if you want to be poor. Yea, the job situation sucks but it'll come through.

I even agree more with that statement. Texas, very good economy - the state has a balanced budget, ranked #1 for fortune 500 HQs (yup, more than NY), ranked #1 for exports, ranked about 10th lowest taxes, no state income tax (high real estate taxes but homes are 1/4th of what they are in CA).

jetJockey amen brother that's what I mean, you can't pay me enough to stay here now. Santa Maria is beautiful, I concur. Roaddog are you a cop or moderator or what cause last time I checked my info is good. Oh I cry a lot living here and can't wait to get out and away. Lost in space is right man, bakersfield is 20 years back in space, like the town California forgot. No more replies, it hurts my brain to read this stupid stuff, I stand by the fact that if anybody moves here, they will regret it. Try Tehachapi, 40 miles up the road at least there is no smog if you want a quiet town.
I have a wonderful life thank you: proof is I have 58 posts, you have 3,422 case CLOSED. You were posting before I was even born. HUHA
