I agree with everything said. The best thing about CSULB is that living in LB is relatively cheap compared to other places in southern california. You can always find a good deal if you look and landlords typically don't mind roomies because the college is right there. Also, if you are doing business, CSULB is great. Especially their finance department. Good luck!

Actually Cal Poly SLO is the highest priced CSU in the state. The campus adds more fees than any other Cal State campus.
Annual fees at Cal Poly are $4,689. The next highest campus is Sonoma at $3,946.

Because, just like health care costs in California, there are those who pay and those who don't pay and the vast majority who pay for those that won't pay.
Your tuition is expensive because untold numbers of 'students' who won't pay get their tuition payed by those that DO pay.

Two words: Budget Cuts. State of California spent less and less on education, which forced universities to increase tuition fees while cutting some expenses at the same time.

Its probably the price vs. quality. Some of Cal Poly's programs are outstanding, comparable to what's offered at UC campuses. But like any college not all the majors at Cal Poly are outstanding, some are simply equivalent to other CSUs.

Exactly!
I got my BA and MA in English at Poly .. umm ... an Engineering and Ag school? Yeah, it's not exactly a Liberal Arts school. I mean, the university could care less about us Liberal Arts-ers. But I knew what I was getting into. I am a local, and I wanted to save money.

The in-state vs. out-of-state tuition questions have been answered, but another question remains: With the reasoning used on the initial post, do we want another such student in the system?
