hi guys,

I wanted to buy a place in Contra Costa or Alameda counties, but I can't afford them. Well, actually no, I could afford Antioch, but I've yet to read anything positive about Antioch on here. So I'm now looking at Tracy and Manteca, which are affordable for me, and still close to the Bay Area. I want a safe town (it doesn't have to be Mr. Roger's neighborhood, but I don't want to have to worry about crime), school system doesn't matter since I don't have kids, and I want to buy a house between $250,000 and $300,000. So do Tracy and Manteca meet the qualifications? If anyone thinks of another town that works for me please let me know, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

If you work in the Bay Area, just rent a house closer (that might be near public transportation, ideally) rather than settle for a farther-away place, with a grinding commute and declining home values, for the sole sake of buying a house.

This is the truth. Renting isn't throwing away money when $500,000 houses are selling for $200,000 with no bottom in sight.
