The houseboat rentals on Lake Shasta can range from $850 to 12,000 depending on how long you go, what time of year and what size of boat. They can sleep anywhere from 6 to 22 people. Search houseboating on Lake Shasta, there are quite a few houseboats companies

Wow, that is scary. If I were her, I would be reporting this to the closest police station, and getting their help. (Maybe she already has done this?)

Redding is a great place to live. I grew up and graduated in Cottonwood, CA just south of Redding. My family still lives there and I am trying to convince the wife to move back with me. Stay away from Anderson(between Cottonwood and Redding), it's a freakin' hole.

Thank you iCalifornia for all your words of wisdom. I too am moving due to the call of God. Please email me your website information. I would love to keep in touch and know someone when I arrive. I thought I was moving next year, but it seems God has another plan it will be much sooner. I'm in a the process of selling my home and sending out resume to the professional business arena (as that's where my skills lie), but I'm also trusting God to transition me to the a career change into education. I have always wanted to teach adult education and now's my chance to get trained and take the risk.
I totally understand your concerns about being the sole provider for your family as I am too. But like you said so eloquently in your message, you have to trust God and step out on faith. I love God more than this life I have here in Illinois. That's why I do it.
The blogs and the internet have been so very helpful. Thank you everyone for your selfless act of kindess. I promise, I will pay it forward!
I pray I hear from you soon.
Warm Regards,
Lori4cj@yahoo.com

[quote=Lori4CJ;4334411]Thank you iCalifornia for all your words of wisdom. I too am moving due to the call of God. ( I suggest you check out Simpson University)
Right now God has made this place hot and smoky as hell.... 115 today
so if youre coming please check it out without making permanent decisions to move here
As locals we " acclimatize" every year...
A couple of summer observations
Swamp coolers dont work much past 100
Shade is necessary for life
Work outside can start as early as 430 am.. and be done by noon.. I feel soooooo sorry for construction people.. and right now my heart goes out to firefighters
Even the "cold" high mountain lakes get warm
If you want to understand what are soldiers face in Iraq for heat... come to Redding.. It is the reason I will eventually move from here

I live in Phoenix right now, it will be an improvement over what we have for weather right now. We have been over 100f since the first of june. You guys are only the 2nd most sunny place around. I look forward to nice cool 104F days. I like the heat, but I just get uncomfortable in 114 degrees. Redding has more shade than here, and is close to Shasta National Forest for an escape to cooler climate.

It's been ungodly hot in Redding lately - 112F yesterday - 116F today. And with the smoke, life hasn't been very enjoyable almost everywhere in California [even smoke from Big Sur fire here in LA - talk about bad air quality
I grew-up in Chico & know how long summer can be w/ weeks of 100+ temps.

This hot weather is fairly unusual. I lived there 16 years and the hottest I experienced was 122 in the late 80's. Normally it just hovers around 95-110 all summer. These 115 temperatures are natures way of making up for lost time. It's been a pleasant summer up until now. Payback time. lol
I gave a rather long reply about two towns just minutes south of Redding. http://www.city-data.com/forum/calif...-anderson.html

Living in Tulare County right now and may be moving to Redding before the end of the year. I wonder if any of you long-term residents can tell me where the bad areas are in Redding. For instance, where I live, the NE and SE areas of town are undesirable. Usually every town has it's good/bad areas, just trying to narrow the real estate search. We are also looking for some property, at least an acre if not more. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
