Does this happen in Oregon?

We lived in Medford 2 years and I lived in Klamath Falls and LaGrande one summer.

Did see of have any problems but we often came to redding because is was so much more lively that medford.

As far as people caring whether you are form California - I don't think they do - we've moved into and out of california 4 times and nobody cared that we had lived in California.

I have read somewhere on this forum that a persons property was vadalized, and later burned to the ground. I don't recall that happening in Oregon. I have read that people from CA moving to OR have been spit on and told to go back where you came from. Just depends on who you neighbors are, I'm sure. It's a good idea to get OR plates asap. Again, I'm sure it just depends on who lives next door. I can't believe that all OR people are like that. Take care, skitow.

Just about anywhere you move to people will ask where you are from, especially as a new neighbor. As long as you don't brag about having made a lot of money from real estate or high wages, most folks else were don't really care. I would simply say I worked hard for it over many years, as I have. How much equity I had in my previous house and what I do with it is no one's business.

Using that strategy, I'll give most folks credit for being good people and hopefully good neighbors.

Many Boomers are looking for their perfect spot to live, as is my wife and I. We have been researching, reading and talking to many folks while scouring the map and taking some trips to eliminate certain areas. It is a lengthy process, one I hope will pay off in the next two years when we retire, or semi-retire. If we haven't decided, we'll take off in the RV for awhile and search some more.

We have been visiting family in Redding for 33 years and spent many weeks on the lake and in town, but we don't have the true flavor of the town having not lived there. We own a nice condo there as an investment-which is up for sale now. Redding is on our good list!

NOTMEOFFICER has many posts here that accurately describe the region and it's good and bad points. Let's hope he, or someone, finds Nirvana, or a reasonable substitute, and quietly slips the info to us here...
Tallequah Oklahoma is attracting a lot of attention. Not far from the Lake of the Ozarks and Green and wooded - I'm reading a lot of good stuff about it. Near Branson MO also. I was born in Okahoma but as far as I know - I've never been there.

Norman is highly rated too. I do happen to be a sooner fan and the only two negatives they have that concern me is - I love real mountains - rolling country won't do, and the risk of tornados is much higher than California. I face that often in Missouri too and want to leave here. They say Norman is a very active town of 88,000 with lower rentals and good jobs. Just what I've been reading on city-data I believe.

Aloha all,

We have a lot of folks from CA moving to the Big Island. No one minds much about what you sold your house for in CA, since our values went through a major rise and fall a year or so ago....we just think you are smart for leaving behind the property taxes!

Just stopping by to learn a bit about CA. Every once in a while, my SO and I consider the idea of moving to Oregon or Northern CA, and he leaves me the task of "doing some research"....this thread was very informative. Redding sounds a bit like Hilo where we live now. A little "behind the times"?, but catching up as new people move in and have an influence. ( I'm not sure I could deal with the summer temps, though. I grew up in the south and know what hot and humid is like...)

Enjoyed all the posts,

Cynthia

We have folks from all over California moving to Redding. Primarily because housing is more affordable here. You can buy a home without leaving the State. Our median price here is around $280,000. My husband and I moved here from San Diego four years ago (he's originally from Redding), we love it here and started our careers in Real Estate. We wouldn't go back to the City, although we love San Diego - we wanted to get away from all the hussle, all day traffic, high home prices, etc. In Redding, we can truly relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds this place - the lakes, mountains, rivers, the people are extremely friendly, we have some of the best schools in the State and several clubs and organizations for those who choose to retire here. Here are some websites you can surf to get an idea of Redding:
1. Redding, CA. Welcome to VisitRedding.com
2. Viva Downtown Redding - A Main Street Organization
3. Chris & Maria Jeantet : Shasta Living...a better place for you and your family
4. Redding.com : Redding, California, News, Business, Homes, Jobs, Cars & Information

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions too.

Smile I'm curious about winter fog in redding

I used to drive from Sacramento to Stockton every night and back - the fog often was downright dangerous.

Hopefully Redding doesn't have much of a fog problem. Can anyone advise me.

Thanks

MajorHart

Redding has some fog, but it is nothing like the fog that forms in the San Joaquin Valley where you can't see more than 2 car lengths in front of you.

Default New Family Moving to Redding

Hi Everyone.

I live in the border of Los Angeles and Orange County.

We are a family that is moving to Redding early next year. How hard it is to find a job there in the funeral business?

To give you a hint, I have been serving the Death Care industry for 13 years, but lately I only do administrative work. Nothing to do with taking care of deceased loved ones.

I would also like to get out of the Funeral Home setting and may be work in an administraive type of job, office work... or maybe a certian type of home-made media (videos and photo resotoration).

We have been getting the hint that find a good 3 bedroom apartment is easy and affordable. Am I right?

Thanks.
