How about the Talley facility in Newbury Park at about the top of the grade? It was a landmark with the little rocket revolving (I think) around the globe.

Yuck.. My mom briefly worked at Talleys. It smelled!!! The land is still so contaminated. They have built all these buildings on the land, and in the EIR they even state the the land will never be 'clean'. Who in their right mind would buy one of those bldgs?
It's located right off Wendy Drive, on Old Conejo Road.

I definitely remember DuPars. We would get pie from there.
Lupe's was the first Mexican restaurant I ever went to. I'm from Ohio and moved to Thousand Oaks in 1976. Our town in Ohio at the time didn't have any Mexican restaurants and I never tried Mexican food before. Well, I just loved it and I would always beg my mom to take us to Lupe's or El Torito. It's still my favorite kind of food.

I didn't grow up in Ventura County but I did live and work there from 1980-1990. I remember when the Ventura mall was small and you could just stroll the stores outside. After a while they put a tent like structure over the top and then they ended up enclosing it.
I worked at in the business office at Chase Brothers Dairy for quite a few years too. It was located in Oxnard on 5th street. It was where the dairy was located. Gosh did that place smell. I was lucky because I had the only air conditioned room in the office because of the computers. Does anyone know if the dairy is still there? How about the dairy stores? They had the best chocolate milk and eggnog!

Downtown Ventura: Top Hat, Club Soda, Rendezvous Room. After 2 a.m., Carrows on Thompson.
West county generally speaking, I remember a time when oil and agriculture ruled. In those days things like farmworker housing meant shanties at the unforgotten edges of the Oxnard Plain. Fast-forward two, three decades and I welcome the face-lifts and new-urbanism development sprouting up around Oxnard and Ventura. Farmworker housing now means a solid support for SOAR. Sometimes things do change for the better.

I remember KOVA Ojai. I remember taking my first car date to the cross above Ventura's pier. I remember hiking up to the twin trees and talking over the CB to friends in Oxnard, then meeting for lunch at the Cottage Cafe. I remember delivering pizza on the Avenue and being invited in for parties. I remember afternoons out at the Santa Paula and Oxnard airports, just watching the planes and the fog roll in, eating at the Red Baron. I remember getting up at 4am to make it down to Pt. Mugu for the Blue Angels airshow. I remember my parents, happy and healthy, at home. I remember going to the fair and making out with my girlfriend at Surfer's Point. I remember Double Deal Pizza. I remember Cartright's, a hotdog place (on Main or Thompson) near five points. I remember the Ban-Dar.
