Yep, I remember that FOWL smell and always being ready to roll the windows up before it was too late

Can't wait to get home to Ventura County so I can form new, wonderful memories which will help to erase the memories of my last 7 years in the UK. Stories like this have become very common, with kids trying to carve their names into the bodies of living animals. Just a few more weeks and I'll be home and forever free if this horrific place.

TOgirl2008 is on a distinguished road
I love reading about the good old days back in TO. I also did crazy stuff back when I was a teenager in TO. I remember how we use to cruise up and down moorpark rd trying to find cute guys to party with. We also use to go to this place we called The Dome. It was in north ranch before all the huge houses were built there. We would just play our music loud and hang out. What great memories. I miss TO so much!

101 Drive-In Theatre (Ventura)

Santa Paula Drive-In Theatre ($ .75/carload and free bubble gum)

Merle's Drive-In (Ventura/5 Pts; just like Mel's in American Graffiti); cruising from Merle's to Tony's Pizza and back to Merle's

Bonfires on the beach by the Ventura Pier and Grunion hunting

Jungleland in Thousand Oaks

Ventura High School's 2-story building covered in ivy (before they tore it down thinking it wouldn't be safe during an earthquake - only to sadly discover it was earthquake-proof)

Surfer's Pt

Original downtown Main St in Vta before the mall....when we had Penny's and Vta Dept Store and the beautiful Christmas decorations. And the old "money change" tubes that Penny's used that were fascinating to a kid.

The soda fountain at Woolworth's down on Main St.

The Hub (women's clothing store on E. Main in Vta.)

Ventura County was a great place to grow up during the 40's - early 60's!

Nahas Department store in Simi Valley. That place must have had the crankiest, most suspicious store manager I ever had the displeasure of coming across. I couldn't step foot in the store without "Mrs. Cranky" following me everywhere. For the rcord, I was never a shoplifter, she just didn't like kids or teenagers, LOL!

I'll bet a lot of people don't realize the legendary Wernher Von Braun spent quite a bit of time in Ventura County in the late 1950s and 1960s. This shot below (not protected by copyright) shows him at Rocketdyne's Santa Susana Field Lab in the hills between Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley.

Conejo Valley Girl is on a distinguished road
I am new to this web site. Oh my gosh what wonderful memories of my youth growing up in NP. I left the Conejo Valley in the 90's when we moved to Huntsville. I am now living in Colorado.
I can remember when the only traffic jam in NP was when the sheep would go down Reino Rd.

Where did you live in Newbury Park? Did you go to NPHS? I live in HSV now and had live in Colorado for the past two years. I used to live in TO too.

Yes, I went to NPHS. Great picture. I graduated in the 70's. How about you? I lived off of Wendy and Reino. In the 90's my husband and I moved to HSV/Madison for the first time for his job. We have lived there three different times. For now we are outside COS.
I loved your picture of W. Von Braun. The one thing that I miss about HSV is going to the VBC for the hockey games.
I also lived in TO as well as just about every city in VTA. Co. smile
