Humidity and bugs are big negatives for me. Have you ever seen entire yards screened in? You have to run the air 24/7, just plain uncomfortable. If I had won that HGTV house in Islamorada then I would consider living there.

I think it's a great state if you love the water and beaches, which I do. I actually want to move to Miami b/c I've lived in CA my whole life and as much as I love it I am just tired of it and ready for something new. I really don't want to live anywhere colder than San Diego and would prefer some heat and warm ocean water. Hawaii is too isolated and I've been there a bunch so I thought I'd east and check out FL. Doesn't seem like the most ideal place to live and the quality of life seems worse than CA but it's cheaper and has warm, sunny beaches. I like the tropical vibe and setting too and wouldn't mind living somewhere where it rains and has interesting weather.

I like their beaches and their vast array of minority cultures lacking out west: Cuban, Dominican, Haitian, Puerto Rican, etc.

I live in Miami right now, anyone thinking of leaving California IMO is silly, unless they are retiring. I would love to move to California.

Not to mention the snakes, the BIG cockroaches, the fire ants and not a single Trader Joe's store in the entire state. That's a definite dealbreaker for me. I lived in Orlando for about three years when I was a youngster--BEFORE Disney World opened, to give you an idea of how long ago this was. To me, Florida is OK to visit, not to live. I'll stay here in California, thank you very much, earthquakes and all.

Couldnt agree more.
There are some similarities, but for the most part, I'd take California any day, and I'm a native here.

If you can call rain and hurricanes interesting. Apart from that, there's no variation. Its just constant heat and humidity.
