On my trips to California I would often get asked where I was from. After telling them I was from FL the response was usually, "Oh, I'm sorry".
Florida sucks compared with the West Coast but it is better than most other areas in the Southeast.

Weak economy (no notable cos./financial industry/tech industry); very few smart and/or well-educated people; awful weather (heat/humidity); awful restaurants; boring topography w/endless flat, straight rds (depressing for those who enjoy driving sporty cars); hurricanes; bugs/insects.....
Life's too short to live (or even visit) anywhere in FL....
Much rather live in a small shack/condo in SF or LA regions than anywhere else...
If desperately short of cash/job, would move to much-cheaper, economically relevant Dallas....and work non-stop to move back to SF/LA....

I lived in Florida for a while when my husband and I were newlyweds. While I was able to tolerate living there, I didn't really love Pensacola. The humidity drove me insane. It was disgusting as you go everywhere with a big sweat mark on your back! Then, when you go to the neighborhood pool to cool off, you find out that it is 90 degrees and almost as warm as the air, with 100 people crammed in. They had to throw ice in to cool it down!
The beaches were nice, although I hated how they would actually do shark fishing from the beach while people are swimming! The water is much warmer than here, although on really hot days it didn't offer much heat relief.
The main thing was Pensacola just seemed sort of run down and I definitely ran into some North Florida rednecks that love their beer and rifle. Most of the people back then were really pretty nice in Pensacola though, even the rednecks with a good story. I here that Miami folks aren't as nice, but I haven't lived there. Outside of the beach, there wasn't nearly as much to do in Florida though. CA has mountains, rivers, lakes, caves, ski slopes, red woods, etc.... In conclusion, Florida isn't a bad place, just not as good as California in my opinion. We didn't have any hurricanes when we lived there so I don't know what that is like.

Ya the heat/humidity is irritating to say the least. There is mold/mildew all over the sidewalks from the rain and excess moisture this time of year. Yuck

I've never been to Florida, I'm sure it has some great places to live though. Yes they have hurricanes but that's not Florida's fault, mother nature exists everywhere in some capacity. It has a good amount of sports, Disneyworld, lots of sunshine, etc. I could think of worse places to live that's for sure.
It's also where The Golden Girls took place, great show by the way.

I think California has many more positive attributes than FL. It's beautiful. I lived in Ventura for 10 years, Bakersfield for 4 years and Orlando for 4 years. I'll take southern California over FL anytime. FL has some really nice natural beauty with nice beaches too though. We love the warm water. Winter is pretty nice here but June though October is brutal. The past few months seem to be wetter than most too. It rains almost every day and not just your typical afternoon thunderstorms. I hate the humidity and the black mold that grows everywhere too. The good news is we haven't had any hurricanes since we've lived here so that's been a plus! Knock on wood...

My Mom is From Miami I go to Florida twice a year. The weather in the summer is HORRIBLE. Humidity, down pours out of nowhere that add to the humidity. If you're going to Miami you better learn Spanish as it is run by the Cubans and other Latinos but mainly Cubans. Overall I do not like it there better than California as it gets boring after a while. If you enjoy clubbing all the time and beautiful women it's tolerable.

Isn't it funny that I actually miss those summer afternoon thunderstorms AND the humidity. I was back South earlier this month, and I made a point to run outside mid day. I seem to have a hard time doing that here because of how dry it can get. What is it they say about one man's fortune..

I'm not speaking fro all CA'ans here, but what do I think of Florida?
It's very hot, muggy, flat, dull and it has no waves but plenty of stinging jellyfish. It seems like that's where people from New York or New England go for sunshine and beaches because they don't know any better or because they think CA is too smoggy and HI is too far.
