Red face Teaching on Central Coast

I'm a high school teacher with an admin credential interested in relocating to the Central Coast. What are my chances of getting work and which are the best districts to apply to?

Hoping to end up in Nipomo or Orcutt.

Thanks!

It can be a little rough for teachers here, especially in SLO County. There is not much turn-over here. Santa Maria is growing. I understand there are plans to build a new high school. A new one was just built maybe 5 yrs. ago. I think I was told the new high school is slated to be built in Orcutt? not sure though. Nipomo and Orcutt are close, so commuting wouldn't be an issue. Off hand, I'd say Santa Maria area is your best bet.

I have heard that the Lucia Mar School District (Nipomo) doesn't pay as well as the school districts in Santa Maria. If you're thinking about teaching at the high school level, there is the Santa Maria Joint Union High Schoo District which has Santa Maria High, Pioneer Valley High and Righetti High (Orcutt Area). Plus the continuation high school, Delta High. I know there were teachers last year getting pink slips due to budget issues.

Templeton High School is a good school to apply at since it's still growing. Right now, I would say Santa Maria School District is best right now because other schools cut teachers b/c of the recession. Lucia Mar School District is also a good school district.

San Luis Coastal Unified School District pays very well compared to the other districts in the area. They cover the schools in San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Los Osos.

Yeah, I live in Templeton and the only thing here is our Trader Joes, the high school, hospital, and the longs drugs being built. every freshmen is getting bigger and bigger, and next year were getting a modernization grant for a wrestling room, new band room, more class rooms, and something else new. within a couple years the library and gym in templeton will break ground. for some reason, families r still moving to templeton. and i believe the high school pays pretty good too and good benefits.

Templeton sounds like a nice little town; do you like living there?
