Any list that says Oakland is suburban is just silly. And this thread seems to be another attempt to put SLO, which is a lovely, self-contained place in a nice setting, into a category that somehow validates it to outsiders. There aren't many apples-to-apples comparisons in California of a college town, in a tourist area, that's so far from a substantial urban area (with an airport hub, pro sports team, interstate) as SLO. Its peers are places like Flagstaff and Gainesville, not Visalia.

Okay, then how about this. Visalia is urban, San Luis Obispo is urban, and Oakland are urban.

That should end all this.

My next big issue is this....

I have found information that is almost for sure true. That downtown probably won't get Macy's even though many want it in downtown. Now, it's not confirmed but I have my thoughts.

So if Macy's is not going in downtown could Macy's go in the San Luis Obispo Promendade expansion or the Irish Hills Plaza expansion?

Personally, I think it will go in the San Luis Obispo Promenade because the private retail planner is Carol Florence, developer Bill Bird, and architect Scott Dabney, and then the builders are Speciality Construction.

What does this spell? Instant development and action. ;0 :0

You have time to date and party AND research urban/suburban/rural issues and submit novels in the form of a post on city-data. That's amazing.

I haven't been doing much of dating right now. Maybe just going out with some girl I meet at work. Usually I do dating during school. I have a job at a fast food resturaunt right now, and then I go run a mile to stay in shape for cross country, and if i have time i go to a party or go to SLO, and then I research the growth of SLO while I chat online.

I haven't played video games or computer games for a long time. I gave them up to my siblings.

Now, back to the topic.

Being I doubt Madonna Enterprises is going to use the last amount of land to build just a Macy's and some clothing stores when they could more than just a Macy's. I think since Bill Bird (man who got us Macy's last time to be in SLO) is going to be the developer in the SLO Promenade 2 I think we have a strong chance of seeing Lowe's and Macy's be apart of the 350,000 sq. ft. shopping center.

Interesting for who? a Ph.D candidate. C'mom, it's a bit much. And I'm just giving the city a hard time, not attacking. I've been reading his posts for a while and they're interesting, especially his fascination with malls, I call it innocent proding, not attacking. OK "city". You do sound like a good kid. Just joking with ya.

Okay, back to the original topic. Has anyone considered SLO being an ex-urb of Santa Maria? A successfull outer suburb of Santa Maria or total another urban city?
