They should make it into to 4 states. The reality is until they adjust their spending habits to match their revenue, it will continue to be a bankrupt state.
I propose they call them: The State of Despair, the State of Depression, the State of Denial and the State of Dysfunction which, of course, includes Sacramento.

California already functions as Northern and Southern California, each with its different needs and strengths. It might be easier to 'govern' (if anyone is truly willing and capable of doing so!) as two separate states.

Apparently slick thinks the "U.S. Gov." has some other source of money than taxing citizens and businesses in all the states - or else thinks the GNP of the other states somehow exceeds that of CA. Wake up, dude, the feds just take our money, skim off 75% or so, and pretend as if they're making us a "gift" when they reluctantly return what's left.

Spot on, EC. And the people who forget that are usually transplants from the least coast where states are smaller than many CA counties. Go figure.

Another sterling example of an adherent to the Rodney King School of Political Persuasion. Why don't you stop assuming so much and become a little more politically aware of the mess our state politicians have created over the past two decades, and how unlikely it is that voters can make meaningful changes in the process for another half century.
There is honest frustration among thousands of citizens spread out around the state - at least the ones who take time to think - and some honest discussion about alternatives to the status quo - such as provided in this thread - serve the purpose of providing enough of a sounding board so as give us a tiny bit of relief. Sort of like letting off a little steam all the time instead of suddenly exploding like a Mt St. Helens volcano.
So while I don't agree with many of the POV's expressed here I see the value in their expression. Your desire for us to shut up a go away is - in my opinion - shallow. But thanks for posting, anyway.

Speak MY mind
I personally think it should be split where Paso Robles is, but I suspect that those ppl who say to divide it into East and West or separate the areas north of Sac from the areas south are a bunch of dumb right wings who are pissed that they cant get this state to turn red. They know that a bunch of conservitives live inland and far upstate so they are tyring to cheat and get an extra state.

I know NorCal and SoCal are different... but the difference between Northern FL and Southern FL is an even bigger extreme. I'd say split those too, or merge North Florida with Alabama or Georgia, it might as well be.

The U.S. constitution forbids all states except Texas from doing this.
Just learned this yesterday reading some Texas history.

This gripe is against agriculture. That's where most of the water goes, so if you wanna cut the spigot say goodbye to revenues, too. Not that agriculture isn't incredibly wasteful in its usage, though. People also forget that manufacturing gobbles a lot of water too. This idea starves business, not people. The citizenry of SoCal only receives about 10-15% of the water coming down from the Delta.
As for common misconceptions, Los Angeles is waaaaay ahead of Northern California in terms of water conservation and has been for decades. Consider this: The population of LA increased by 25% in the past 20 or so years. The water consumption has remained level, and even decreased in some months. More needs to be done. But that goes for everyone in the state.
Remember too that if we split California up, then those far outposts of rough independence lose their wallets. Time and again, when the state has had budget shortfalls it's called upon the big cities--LA, SF, SD--to tighten their belts, all the while taking revenues from them. And the cities have responded, time and again. So if anyone outside the MSAs feels so put-upon by them to want to split, be careful what you wish for.
