Thanks for reminding us. Some of us hadn't fulfilled our "picking on" quota yet this month. Now we have something to do. Thanks again.

Article IV: Relations Between the States
Section 3
Clause 1:
"New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress."
so IF the the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress is that you can make news states out of old states
THEN YES

I have an idea that would make great sense. We could still keep 50 states, yet change the geography. For instance, combine all the New England States, merge Delaware and Maryland, split eastern Oregon and Washington from the rest of those states and merge them to make a new state. Also merge western Oregon and Washington. Split California into sections. One being north of Sacramento, another being from Sacramento down to the bay area and down the coast to Los Angeles, one could be central California and the other can be San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Imperial counties. Create an East Virginia and keep Virginia with the western counties of that state, and last but not least, make Texas into three different states (eastern, central, and western). This action would definately make for a great Senate composure.

State of Confusion

Why not add a fifth one to that list. Let's go with the State of Confusion.

They know that a bunch of conservitives live inland and far upstate so they are tyring to cheat and get an extra state.

Actually, if conservatives got their own state, it would be much better than the current one. Finally, people would truly have rights and it would be in much better shape, both politically and economically. I would move there, that's for sure.

I think California should be at least 2 states and I think Oregon should not even be in the USA.

James Madison predicted that DE would be absorbed by MD. However, state mergers never caught on - what politicians would want to give up their offices?
IMO, CA should be split into two states, FL should be split into two states, NYC, PR, and DC should get statehood, and split Texas into 3 states, and then we'd have 57 states as in the Obama gaffe!

Leave the state as one, splitting it will only deviate from the problem at hand.

LOL!! Yeah, now that might be something Obama might try to achieve during his presidency. There has already been talk about Washington DC becoming a state. Then he could try to persuade Puerto Rico to be another state, along with the Virgin Islands. Then splitting California into 5 states.
