I agree. Its closer to Fascism than it is to Communism.

Well, there are expensive towns all over the state, but when comparing metro areas, the Bay Area is a little more expensive.

The minimum wage in the bay area is higher than the rest of the state. In the bay area it is required that auto mechanics be in the union.

No, its because the Bay Area has by far the most college grads which means higher pay on average.

Not to mention that the residents of the bay area tend to live in a world or rainbows and butterflies where there is no evil accept the mean ole United States. So buy the world a coke and let's all sing kum by ya.

Actually The Bay Area is the happiest place in the state. According to a survey by the Public Policy Institute of California, 7 in 10 Bay Area residents said they were happy with their overall quality of life. No other region in the state was over 50%

No leave it alone. To seperate it would mean seperate economies and seperate budgets. We allready have too much Government and do not need to create anymore. Not only would it be a bad idea but it would deprive California of its economic stimulus and create havoc with drivers licenses and other beaurocratic redtape not to mention imigration problems.Change is good but too much is devistating.Someone please tell Obama we can not be all things to all people.

Splitting California
I think splitting California into separate states is absolutely ridiculous. The idea must have been thought up by non native Californians. One of the best things about California is the fact that we are a few hours away from everything. We drive a couple hours and we are in the mountains and snow country, a couple more hours and you are at the beach or the desert. Our diversity is what makes this state great. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I have had numerous opportunities to move elsewhere, but my fears have always been that once I left I wouldn't be ablke to afford to come "home". I have had the privilege to live all over this beautiful state. I have lived in the cities when it was necessary in my travels to be in a city, lived in the Calaveras logging community, as well as the Salinas Valley in Monterery County. For those who wish to separate the state why don't you try staying in your county where no one bothers you.

This is just a natural cycle... California is purging and getting back to "normal"
It is just more drastic because it has such a large economy and the largest population in the country...no biggie.
People who do'nt like it have 49 other states to go to, illegals have gone back to Mexico a lot, or even Texas, hopefully there will be something passed that if they want to work they can at least pay taxes on it.
In the end it should all work out.

I am not really following this thread discussion but I was perusing and came across this assertion which I don't believe is correct.
Los Angeles and Southern California in general are where the bulk of California's population reside so I don't know how you think the Bay area has more college graduates.

You know that dividing the state wouldn't have any affect on geography, right? The beaches, deserts, and mountain won't be any farther apart.

That's the problem. People in their own counties ARE being bothered and having their quality of life affected by politicians hundreds of miles away who have no idea about life in the areas they make policy for.

Constitutionally, it IS possible for CA to become two states. The territory of MI was robbed of the 'Toledo Strip' in the 1800s to make way for the new state of OH. So yes, it can. Possible but not probable. CA should split into 2 differents states. I'm sure Northern CA would love to become its own and have nothing to do with Los angeles and Southern CA. The capital could remain in Sacramento.
Southern California's new capital could be maybe Bakersfield.
Both states would still have very healthy populations, but Southern CA would still probably be the most populated among the new 51 states.

Northern and Southern CA are so different from each other, that they CAN and should become seperate states. It CAN happen. During the Civil War, western Virgina broke off from the rest of Virginia to become the new state of West Virginia.
