Personally, I'm all for a little artistic expression in the redwood parks and I think MV's photos are pretty darn good. Have you seen the MV photo of the Geisha Redwood in Prairie Creek, it is epic. Yeah people are on or near the trunk in some MV photos, but I bet they took care in their approach and exit.

My advice for anyone looking to find a redwood that hasn't been outed yet is to not draw conclusions from anything you read. For example have you read the Wild Trees by Richard Preston? Gosh that guy can write well but for tree location information he puts out a jumble of riddles. Instead do some searching for pictures and videos and see what you can line up with Google Earth. That used to be how people found Hyperion.

Then for a redwood parks visit, it is fine to hike to a tree or two someone has their heart set on seeing but please take care to stay away from sensitive areas, which will be obvious as the tree is approached.

As for the web site which gives out GPS, it is very unfortunate. The decision to not publicize specific tree locations was made by the Redwood National and State Parks in conjunction with Save the Redwoods League and research institutions such as Humboldt State University. There were many reasons for this, including wear and tear, hiker safety, tree safety, and access for research. MV had nothing to do with the establishment of redwood location secrecy. So the web site which gives out GPS is going against those institutions and the people working for and supporting those institutions, not against MV.

WVENG is just another alias of FR aka totallyanonymoustroll aka Montclairion aka EShcherbakov the pretend Russian guy. The person is a big cry baby because they couldn't find Hyperion for such a long time.

Yeah Old Man, you have a point. That FR is more a redwood photography site, they are missing the toughest trees to locate and have no new discoveries of their own to show.

Mark,

Yinghai is now spreading false rumours, claiming that certain people are behind FR which we know are definitely not behind it. Somebody wrote Yinghai this letter recently:

"Hello Yinghai

It is well known you and Max Forster are behind the Famous Redwoods web site.

Someone is spreading rumors trying to associate others to that web site. If that is you or Max spreading those rumors, ostensibly to protect your anonymity, please cut that out. It is neither clever nor honorable."

Interesting, after a quick glance, if Max was behind it wouldnt he have provided the information for Grogan's Fault on FR? It appears he has it pictured on his 500px site...

I don't think Max is involved. From what I hear, he is in denial that Yinghai is involved. But Yinghai started blaming Mario and claiming FR is owned by Mario, which is preposterous. Yinghai only did this once he was cornered and now Mario has added a warning about avoiding contact with Yinghai on this page under the "Withholding" section:

Coast Redwood Discovery. Sequoia sempervirens.

People are wondering whether or not Yinghai will come clean this week about who all is involved in FR, why it was made, and whether or not they are willing to adjust it to not give away so much information (some of which is false).

Does anyone know if Yinghai has decided to come clean? If so, ask him for info about who was involved with FR and see if the group is willing to remove the site or at least edit it so it doesn't give out damaging information.

You know what's kind of odd and telling? All of the trolls mysteriously disappeared and quit posting once Yinghai's name was posted as the possible owner of FR. Everything went very very quiet around here. Hmm really makes you think.

totallyanonymoustroll
Montclairion
EShcherbakov the pretend Russian guy
WVENG the pretend Chinese guy

They all were assumed to be the same person, the owner of FR. And none have posted every since Yinghai was mentioned.
