OK, there was more. Wow, sorry to hear all that. I certainly wish you well. Re-training options? do they exist. Changing your trade isn't something done over night I realize, but maybe he should look into changing careers. I realize that's easy for me to say, so please forgive me. Unless the medical mould making field is a solid one, I'd hate to see you go through this again. And worse, you'd be far away from family and friends. With 4 young children, I'd choose Tehachapi over Bakersfield, and you certainly don't want to live in Arvin. I wish you well, if I come across anything in the mould making field, I'll let you know.

Shaft - I was born and raised in Toronto a long, long time ago. I moved to Vancouver then migrated to the US through marriage. Have found myself now living about 1hr and a bit, east of Bakersfield. I have travelled the Tehacaphi pass several times, and because u are used to this kind of weather, it would be easy for you to handle. Although it does close down on occasion. I think it would be your better choice. As far as health care goes, you have the best up there. I have Blue Cross (now Anthem) and have a $500. deductible which is really nothing. My RX is $10-20. Dental is additional $80./mo. This is for 1 person. I know there is better healthcare packages out there, so make sure to have a good look. I love it here, and miss my relatives in Ontario very much, it's a long way back home. I haven't been back since 1975..... There is nothing to be scared of, the people here are awesome and very friendly. We are hopefully moving to New Mexico the end of the month, just another chapter in this wonderful life. Good Luck.....

I am definitely not worried about the weather. Were so used to it being so cold. I thought about going out to Calgary and surrounding areas but I don't want the winters they have.
Do you like the USA better? Do you find your cost of living lower? You came from Toronto which is a huge city so I am thinking it might have been an easier transition for you.
Thanks for replying. I was very scared or worried more about the friendlyness of people and if it was going to be Very fast paced compared to what I am used too.
