Wow... we have a Sonic and if there's one car there , we laugh that it's crowded (probably someone from out of town). No one here eats there. Can't really blame 'em either.
I don't recall my first In-N-Out burger, but I grew up going to the NHRA drag races and remember the In-N-Out burger funny car racing against the McDonald's funny car all the time!
I used to eat In-N-Out until a friend of mine from Philly moved out here. He loved that place and, like we all know, there are no In-N-Outs in PA. So on a road trip to San Diego once, right before he was moving back to PA, he made us stop at EVERY In-N-Out between LA and San Diego. Now, I can't go in them. That trip ruined 'em for me.

You're welcome to your opinion, but my Sonic experiences have been pretty miserable. Third rate service and food, in my opinion.

I would say my first In-N-Out Burger was back in 1987 at the age of 17 when they opened a new In-N-Out in my hometown of Upland, CA.

Eh.. hate the fries. Eh... Burgers are exceptional. I'd prefer Carls jr. Over in-an-out any day.

My first Inn-N-Out experience was just this past January when I was out in SoCal for a business trip with my wife. We went for lunch two days in a row and absolutely loved it. I get a #2 animal style, if I recall correctly. I wish we had them here where I am in Tennessee and Georgia.
On a side note, I have been told by some west coast folks who visited here that think our Steak-N-Shake is to die for and is the best thing they've ever had. I guess each region of our country has their own favorites.

What I particularly like about In-N-Out is that they have enough employees on shift almost all the time. Many places don't have enough people working to cover the needs of the restaurant, so quite often, something remains undone, like cleaning the lobby or the restrooms. Sometimes there aren't enough people working in some of these places to even take orders or cook the food. Fortunately, at INO, that has never been the case when I've visited.

Mine was in Fountain Valley, CA back in about 1983 or sometime around there. Was craving In N Out last night too, so it was funny to find this thread...

You know, I'd complain about that, but the way I look at it is that it's taking longer 'cuz they're making it as I order it... not just grabbing whatever's been sitting under a heat lamp.
I LOVE Foster's Freeze burgers and their drive-thru is the same way. takes forever but well worth the wait.
