Default Santa Barbara special needs

Hi- My family and I are considering a move to the Santa Barbara area from NYC. I would be working at UCSB. We have 4 and a half year old twin boys, one of whom is very mildly autistic. We have excellent services/therapy/school for him in NYC and wonder what kind of special needs support exists in the Santa Barbara area. Any thoughts? He would be in Kindergarten in Fall of '09 and would need support (a SEIT) in the classroom with him if it were a typical school. Our first priority for where we'd move to would be a good special needs situation for him (and of course a supportive family oriented community for us all). A short commute to the University would be fine. Please let me know what you think! Thanks so very much!

I work where you will be working! There is an Autism Research Center at the Gevirtz Grad School of Education and I am sure they can direct you to the correct resources in town. The office phone number is 805-893-2176.

I have lived in SB for over 22 years and worked on campus for 16 so if you have any questions, lemme know!

Jill
