Default Saugerties NY and California

Anyone from Saugerties NY that now lives in California?
I've been in So.CA since 1979.
Have seen quite a change in the last 28 years and I'm thinking of moving back east.

Default Donīt Do It!

After 9/11, out of sheer patriotism and some homesickness, I moved back to Saugerties, where I grew up (class of 80). I gave up a life in Germany that I worked for 10 years to build. It was the greatest mistake of my life (I returned to Europe a year and a half ago). EVERYTHING had changed there. First of all, the arrogant rich from NYC are taking over. Termite eaten ranchstyle houses from Barclay Heights are being appraised at +200k. Politically, the area is saturated with neurotic liberals and their politics of identity, turning the schools into Clintonite brainwashing factories. The local past-time seems to be calling any of the many anonymous govt. hot-line numbers to make your neighborsī lives hell with phoney allegations. The incompetence and corruption of local government rivals that of some Eastern European areas Iīve seen, and out of control land developers are destroying the natural beauty of the place by building on every square inch of empty land. Saddest part of all is that the locals have either sold out to it all or just donīt care anymore. Those wonderful, wild and free days of the 70s are truly gone forever. George Orwell would love of N.Y.

When we moved to Barclay Heights in 1968 it was 26K. Been back many times and the Heights looked pretty good. Have friends on John Street. You should try to buy in California if you think 200K+ is alot.
