Default Affordable places to live near Carlsbad California

Are there any? We are looking to move from Western NY to the Carlsbad area and want to know which suburbs have 'it all' - good schools, low crime and a decent housing market. We are looking in the 600000 range and need 4 bedrooms with at least 2800 sq ft.......can this be done in the Carlsbad area? Also, any towns with a 'small town feel' to them?

Check out Encinitas for a slightly bigger downtown and probably better schools than Carlsbad. But, check those facts through the school performance maps website.

You can rent a house that pencils out to that approximate mortgage payment in Solana Beach, which does have a small-town feel.
