It's a matter of taste. I personally dislike the Oregon and Washington scenery..it's all green, green, green...YAWN. Sadly, Cali has been overdeveloped & polluted in some areas, but it has a TON of natural beauty. The whole state is not Los Angeles either . As brought out, the variety landscapes is pretty amazing.
If anything, I find people here more jaded towards celebrities...they never get star-struck when/if they see a celeb, and they have less fascination with them in general. Nothing makes me roll my eyes more than when a non-native moves here to start their acting career....
Many people move out of Cali & find a place that suits them better & that's great for them....a LOT of people I have known move away and then desperately want to come back. They didn't realize what they had while here. And let's face it...Los Angeles is maybe, maybe 2nd to NYC only, and for SoCal people, having reasonably close access to a global city is a big plus, culturally. And for Northern Californians, SF offers a lot also.
Unless you really really dislike heat, few people find it too hot (unless we're talking the desert areas). Many states get very hot & humid in the summer, and then have snowy cold winters. Cali overall is VERY mild & dry compared to most places in the world. There are parts of the state that do not get very warm too...like the northern coast.

Many people that live here think it's the greatest, but many think it's not. Outsiders view us as arrogant and villanous, but most of them would also move here if given the chance. In the end, it's just that we (CA and USA) produce a lot of intriguing export that influence the world in huge ways.

Very true. There's this weird combo of fascination and resentment. People seem to react STRONGLY to Cali & Californians, whether it's good or bad.

Because they believe everything they see on TV. I'm from Fresno, and I feel like I can't get people to understand that where I'm from is not at all what they see on TV.

As an enthusiastic recent transplant, I can tell you what I like about it. I'm just one voice in the crowd.
I like the natural beauty, and the world-class city, and the cultural melting pot. I also like the parrots who live in the trees in my yard. I like learning about the cultural history of this (to me) new location. I like the tremendous opportunities open to people of artistic and/or business talents.

I believe its two fold; one is the weather is wonderful and the other is how TV portrays California.

Try moving out of California. Say for about 1 year. Then you tell me whether you think California is great or not.
I moved to Utah, well not me but really my family moved me out there, for 10 years!
That was 10 years too much out of California.
Now that Im back, I love it everytime I think about about it, everytime I drive by the beach, every time I see palm trees, when I look at the beautiful homes and architecture, I can go on forever.
The greatest state in the nation.

California is a place of great economic opportunities. It is one of the most lucrative, and most expensive, places to live and work in the US. People come to California to get rich. No one ever goes to Iowa or Nebraska to get make their mark on the world. They come to California. We're economically powerful and predominately LIBERAL! Whoo-Yah!

Hollywood, I think. That's been my experience travelling the mid-west. They seem to like us there, or maybe there're invious. I don't know, but they seem to view CA as a magical fantasy land. No joke, at times I almost felt like a celebrity.

The weather is too hot? Okay ... don't live in Barstow. Seriously, what a bizarre statement: "the weather is too hot". California is, what, the 3rd largest state geographically? Its southern border is further south than Atlanta, its northern border is further north than Manhattan. It's the most geographically diverse state in the country and has a fantastic array of weather. You can't find a place to live that isn't hot in the state of California? Coastal San Diego is really too hot for you? Santa Barbara? San Francisco? The mountains? The northern coast?
Crime too high? Okay ... don't live in Oakland or San Bernardino. Again, it's an enormous state, crime rates vary widely from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. There are a lot of cities of 250,000+ in California that don't rank inordinately high re crime. In fact, some rank quite low:

Expenses? Again, you don't have to live in Montecito or Palo Alto. There are lots of affordable places to live.
The scenery -- okay, you think Washington and Oregon look nicer. That's fine, it's a purely subjective notion. And you can't understand why someone else's subjective ideas of preferred scenery differ from yours? Seriously?
We get it, we get it - you don't like California. But your excuses aren't logical because California is those things only in some places.
