Default Why is California so worshipped by people?

I'm a California native, so I'm not speaking as a jealous Midwesterner or bitter Mountain Stater, I just don't see what's so GREAT about California.

The weather is too hot, crime high, expenses even higher, and while the scenery is great, you can do better up in Oregon and Washington.

I love California, but I just don't think it's that great. The Hollywood mindset really annoys me too.

Well, from what I hear, living expenses in Oregon and Washington isn't necessarily cheaper than California, but I also grew up in Santa Clara. The weather is debatable...depends on where you live.

But in general I do agree.

Sure if you wanna live in Redding, it's probably similar to Oregon, but Redding is pretty much Oregon anyway!

I think it's a mixture of the weather, the topography, the cities, and the media.

People's perceptions being a lot different than the actual reality of the state has to do with that. The media has done a great job of making life look glamorous and great in CA for the past 50+ years despite it going downhill a lot in the last 20+ years. Plus if you have money you can buy a great quality of life here while the middle class and poor struggle more so than many other places.

People don't love and look at CA as highly like they used and for good reason. Aside from nice weather and scenery I don't see what sets us apart from other states. We have many of the same good and bad points that all the states have about them, some better and some worse than other places. Unfortunately there still are too many people in this state who actually think everyone loves and wants to be in CA, which is anything but the truth.

I love CA, it's my home but overall it's overrated but becoming less overrated as more people leave and realize what a mess this state can be many times. I'm kind of tired of this place and want to get away for a few years then probably come back unless I find I like it better somewhere else. But my family and close friends are here and CA will always be my home no matter what.

You've got access to snow, sea, mountains.

The weather is great all year long in some places. You don't have to live an outdoorsy lifestyle but it's nice to know you're not holed up in your house for 5 months a year in the dark.

Crime is everywhere. It is more pricey to live here, but hey, you've got all this great sunshine!

Yep. Or they went to Disneyland as a kid and still think the entire state is great because of it.

CA is to the USA as the USA is to the world.

Many people that live here think it's the greatest, but many think it's not. Outsiders view us as arrogant and villanous, but most of them would also move here if given the chance. In the end, it's just that we (CA and USA) produce a lot of intriguing export that influence the world in huge ways.
