Default moving to Sonoma Town - advice for a foreigner please!!

Hello all,

I am a 29 year old Brit moviong to Sonoma in November. I will be working in the town of Sonoma and have heard that sonoma itself is like a sleepy village. questions I have about choosing where to live:

I am not a party animal but I do want to be able to socialise with people my own age. I have heard good things about Pentaluma, and plus it is 25 mins drive from sonoma which sounds great?? or what about Napa?

A lot of these threads also talk about dangerous roads, especially at night. With my job I will be finishing late so what roads should i be avoiding??

Rent - would like to find a furnished room in a house share for around $600 + utilities?? what does PG & E stand for?? would consider a studio but house shares make it easier to meet people.

been looking on craigslist but for sonoma it is a bit limited - where else should i be looking??? many house shares seem to be students or single parents - is there no in between???

PLEASE HELP

Cheers

Sonoma is a nice town. I can't speak for the nightlife in the area, but I suspect San Francisco is going to be the only swingin' town you'll find. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. I'd stick with Sonoma for living because it's nice and it's safe. But, you have to actually be there on the ground to make that decision for yourself.
Pacific Gas & Electric. Craigslist is your best bet, but just google for the local newspaper.

Sonoma is a lovely town, quaint shops and cafe's. Petaluma is nice, but if you live in Sonoma, you will be just as close to Napa or Santa Rosa. I agree with Snort, San Francisco would be the place enjoy any type of nightlife. However, you'd be in the midst of beauty, with the vineyards. Any of the roads that you would travel on the leave Sonoma are pretty much the same. Lots of curves, just be safe. Not sure about the cost of renting, it is somewhat high in Sonoma County, Craigslist is good, also check the local newspaper, Press Democrat.
Hope things go well for you!
