Some people that work in Crescent City live in Harbor-Brookings, Oregon. Its a small town with pretty high housing prices. The weather is a bit better, they are called the Banana Belt of the Oregon Coast.

CA Coastal Records Project pixs of CC
I've always liked Crescent City for some reason. Never lived there, but been through on occasion. The town seems laidback and quiet. Beautiful coast.
Thought these pixs of the CC area were worth sharing. From the California Coastal Records Project (Aerial Photographs of the California Coastline):

I live in McKinleyville which is 69 miles south of Crescent City. Every other weekend or so we go there for Home Depot and Walmart, the prices there are much lower than here in Eureka. It is a small town , yet feels much larger in attitude. The home prices are lower than here in the humboldt bay area. I see homes listed in the $250,000 to $300,000 price range in Crescent City and they start around $300,000 here. Everybody seems to think that it rains for six months here on the north coast, sure the rains come in late October and do not end till early may, but it is not raining all the time, February is know for being clear but cold and December and January can both have rain all month long with out a break, but that is why it stays so nice and green here. If you can afford to commute to Crescent City from McKinleyville or Arcata it would be a good idea. The schools here are much better, top ten for the state.

Isn't it quite a haul from Arcata to CC? I'm afraid to ask what that commute is like on a daily basis.

It is 69 miles to Crescent City from here, but there is very little traffic to deal with so it takes an hour to get there. We don't have the traffic like the bay area does where it can take 2 hours or more to go 45 miles. As one person said, check out Brookings Oregon, it is not very far from Crescent City and the gas prices there are 30 to 40 cents lower than here in Humboldt Bay and lower than California in general. I know a few people that commute to Crescent City from McKinleyville and they do not mind the commute. At the least you could live here, commute to Crescent City and get your gas in Brookings Oregon and still have less time and miles on the road than people in the Bay area that commute from inner Contra Costa county or from Sacramento county to the S.F. area, one guy I know lives in Clayton and commutes to Oakland and he said it can take 2 hours or more and they are about 30 miles apart.

This is a little off-topic, but check out what health insurance companies are accepted there. The hospital stopped accepting some of the blue cross plans and that has caused alot of issues with the state workers. Lots of upset people.

I was just there a few weeks ago. The town is very run down. Not much to do.
Looks like a high drug use area.
It was extremely windy!
