I hope Pozo stays small and uncrowded.

Pozo Saloon? I've got a few memories from there. Nice place to stop on a country drive.
Welcome to Pozo Saloon

Doesn't it have to compete with Creston and Santa Margarita? I'll bet Macy's builds in one of those before Pozo. They are really growing and could use more shopping.

They basically hire high school kids part time and employ a handful of decent employees (I worked there for 2 years while in college as a department supervisor). So, we're providing jobs for high school kids.
Goods will be cheaper at Wal Mart, yes... but you can also join the county co-op to get inexpensive fresh vegetables, or go through Cal Poly for milk, eggs and produce. ($26 a week for enough organically grown vegetables to feed a family of 4-5)
Plus, add on the increased traffic and possible crime (haven't you heard of the muggings and whatnot at the Paso Wal Mart? We really don't need that here...)
It just doesn't seem right to me.

Ditto: these places employ the college students from out of town; not people who live here or raise families here (as a high schooler you couldn't even get a job b/c they all went to college kids and I would assume it is still the same). I was raised here by a single parent on one income and we were able to make it without the likes of all of these stores such as SuperWal-Mart. It was always tight but Wallyworld wouldn't have made a huge difference. There are things such as coupons and grocery store ads. Likewise, there are farmers markets almost every day of the week if you don't want/need to join a co-op.

With the solar plant coming out there I hear power will be cheap for residents. That should help offset the commute to jobs.

Now--is there any chance of getting a Cheesecake Factory within an hour's drive of SLO? If not, I'll be going through withdrawal soon.

Cheesecake Factory - uh, no! Might consider moving to an area where there already is a cheesecake factory. The Central Coast (other than Santa Maria) is not a cheesecake factory quality-of-life location. Here we enjoy the outdoors and all it has to offer: hiking, cycling, running; going to the beach. Horseback riding. Wineries. Overall we do not spend time inside chain restaurants rather than outside living, enjoying our surroundings.

Nah, the commutes not that bad! Only an hour or so... just buy a hybrid! Of course.... they don't yet have a gas station out there.... maybe you can attach those solar panels to your car!

Health care
I am happy to hear that San Luis Obispo has an amazing Cardiac care hospital. Perhaps that is why the Cheesecake factory is coming into town?
But seriously, I do want to settle in for the outdoor recreation, fresh air and the beaches. Mall walking or hanging out at chain restaurants is what I am trying to escape.
How is the kayaking or sailing in the area?
