Ya know kid-at your age most boys are playing baseball, chasing skirts, going to the beach, fishing or hunting. Not planning the DESTRUCTION of beautiful towns in California. Geesh!

Well, it looks like my prediction about Mervyn's going is RIGHT! And the replacement looks like it will be MACY'S!!

Read these two articles if you don't believe me:

Mervyns to liquidate; Linens ’n Things folds - Local - San Luis Obispo

Mervyn's moves closer to chopping block - East Bay Business Times:

Kohl's seems to be planning to expand more of their 80,000sq. ft. + stores in smaller markets like in Paso Robles

And Macy's seems to be a little interested in using their smaller format in the Mervyn's location. One thing is for sure, that we know Macy's has had interest in building in San Luis Obispo before.

Overall, I think more and more Mervyn's stores will be closing and the old stores would be sold out to other larger department stores.

I definately know Dillards doesn't have plans to open stores in California, so that leaves us with Kohl's or Macy's. And from what we've learned Kohl's has little interest in Mervyn's, and Kohl's plans to build a new store in the San Luis Obispo Promenade 2. Which leads me to the conclusion of Macy's wants to buy the San Luis Obispo Mervyn's location.

Macy's will fold in this area, and I'm sure they already know that. If Mervyn's failed, who says Macy's won't? Mervyn's will probably be vacant for a while, until the economy picks up.

Or it could be other way around. Mervyn's is a discount or junior department store. So it's possible that San Luis Obispo is egging for an upscale department store. I dont think Macy's will fold.

I couldn't agree more! I see this kid has another thread about the "future of Paso Robles". Sounds like he would like to rip out the vineyards and pave the place with Target, Macy's, Starbucks, etc. A bleak future indeed. This madness must cease .

"The city" engages in troll-like behavior - If you go back in his post history you'll see that he's a young kid who likes to talk. Nothing wrong with that, but he's also quite argumentative and obsessive. I stopped replying to his posts a long time ago and advise others who value their time to do so as well. No offense to anyone, but actions speak louder than words.

Anytime I see a post from "thecity", I don't even bother to look at it. As others have said, he wants to see huge malls everywhere in San Luis Obispo County. He hasn't realized it yet, but he's living in the wrong county for that stuff.

And it would totally kill the region's appeal. I enjoy driving up to the Central Coast for a 3 day weekend because its a relatively short drive and its nice to relax and feel like I've left the concrete jungle SoCal for a while. If SLO looked like OC, I'd have no reason to go there.
